Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Fox Mill Woods is in Reston. Fox Mill Estates is in Reston. Even if the schools they go to are not in Reston. |
| No one that is zoned to Crossfield lives in Oakton, however. And no one that is zoned to Floris, McNair, Oak Hill lives in Chantilly (I don't think Westfield is actually a town, it's just part of Chantilly, right?). |
Chantilly is not incorporated. I think it may even extend into Loudoun County. Interesting fact: Chantilly High School is in Springfield Magisterial District, but most of students are in Sully. Same for Centreville. Springfield District. Sully students. |
Oakton HS isn’t in Oakton, it’s in Vienna. |
| Fox Mill Estates is in Herndon or Oak Hill, Virginia, not technically within the Reston community boundaries. While located right on the edge of Reston (near Reston Parkway) and often associated with the area, it is in western Fairfax County, using a Herndon address |
| I heard Crossfield was most definitely staying at Oakton. Overheard it at a swim team meeting for our local neighborhood. Seemed several parents were in agreement it was final. |
LOL! I know who you're talking about and just because SHE thinks it's a done deal since she met with the superintendent and school board members absolutely does NOT mean it's a done deal. Trust me, everyone that talks to the superintendent and school board members is told exactly what they want to hear and nothing else. |
Incorrect |
Oh, if the Froggers say it's true, then it must be true. |
How exactly does one get a meeting with the superintendent? Is that a privilege afforded to every parent in the county or just certain people who are shameless in their quest to get what they want? If it’s who I am thinking of, that woman is a bulldog in every setting. |

Fox Mill is Oak Hill, it is not Reston or Herndon, which is why we pay to use Reston and Herndon community centers and programs. Most the people I know use Herndon on their official paperwork or when giving people directions because no one knows where Oak Hill is.
I suspect 5 ES will be placed at Skyview. I expect that Oak Hill, McNair, Coates, and Flores are as close to a guarentee as you can get. That leaves Crossfield or Fox Mill to fill in the remaining seats, at least that has been the assumption a lot of people have been operating under. I have heard from friends at Westfield that there is a lot of resistance to students being moved, I have not seen that posted here and the comments I have heard have been made in passing. I have heard that Centreville parents are not happy with being moved to Westfield, so that could be interesting. There is more to this then the move to Skyview. No idea how it all plays out. |
In this case, it was the PTO co-presidents claiming to represent the entire school community. Never mind that they never polled anyone in the school, held any community conversations, or got input from anyone with a child younger than 5th grade. They just took their opinion and presented it to the Superintendent and other FCPS administrators. I have a 3rd grader, nobody has ever asked my opinion in the school setting. They only have 2 PTO meetings a year and they don't have very many community events at Crossfield so it's not like there's an opportunity for other people to voice their opinions to the rest of the school. |
I've heard it's going to be Lees Corner. |
With our Supe, you might be right. But, that would not be a dumb solution. It certainly would not fulfill the normal boundary process criteria. |
PP. Meant to say it would be a dumb solution. Some of Lees Corner is directly across 50 from Chantilly. Walkable, except for traffic. |
