Biden's VP?

Anytime between tomorrow and Wednesday most likely.

I think his own personal first choice would be Rice - they know each other really well from the Obama admin, and all the articles about his VP search say he wants a partner and someone he already knows and trusts. But, she does carry a lot of Obama administration baggage and I’m sure Republicans would love to throw out the “Clinton Obama Benghazi emails rarrrrrr” red meat to the base.

Demmings may be a gimmick to you - for me, as a public interest lobbyist, I have been nothing but impressed by her. Wish even 50% of Dem caucus was as well-prepared as she is for hearings and floor time. She is fluent with the materials and subject matter, clearly reading memos and listening to her staff (who also appear top notch). Perhaps the law enforcement background was seen as a detraction - that said, really like her and hope she has a long future in national Dem politics.

I don't think she's a gimmick, clear she's smart and talented. Just not very experienced yet.

She is smart, talented and a solid Representative. But, as a VP candidate in 2020 her appeal is gimmicky. Rightly or wrongly her appeal never passed the "former police chief" phase.

Well she hasn't had time to do much else yet. We also don't know whether she or Bottoms had the fourth slot on the shortlist.

Another interesting data point. Looks like Trump may have ceded MI-- ad spending there has dropped to almost nothing.

Whitmer may help more broadly in other key midwestern states, but Biden likely doesn't need her for MI. Especially if he picks a Black woman. I really don't know which way this will go.

Just a quick reminder that it doesn’t matter. Biden could choose Gretchen Whitmer’s lipstick and I’ll still vote for him.

She will thrill the suburban white women who see themselves and their daughters in her and be ok enough for their husbands. Clinches MI and PA and maybe helps elsewhere in other parts of flyover country, Biden’s “gaffe” perhaps suggests he may think African Americans will support him 96-4 in any and all events. Harris becomes AG and S.Rice becomes sec. of state. Maybe the thought is that the vaguely racist male swing voters would be turned off by a woman of color VP. That’s the post, folks.

Really? Why couldn't white women see themselves in Hilary Clinton? I mean what does whitmer have Hilary didnt have ? Are you actually serious with this argument ? It has a weird combination of being pathetic and unbelievably dumb.

Hrc is a Wellesley YLS grad - the average FUPA toting white woman cannot relate to her.

Whitmer is culturally more relatable to this set than HRc.

Whitmer would be culturally more relatable than Gina Raimondo for example as well because of Gina’s educational background

Whitmer was a member of Michigan House of Rep and then Michigan State Senate for many years. She was the Michigan Senate’s first female Democratic leader. She went to Michigan State for her law degree. No one cares she didn’t go to Wellesley or Yale. Most people in this country go to their state school now that college cost is out of control. Obama had about the same amount of experience or less than Whitmer. He was a one time Senator where as Whitmer is a Governor. She has been dealing with the issues that matter for this country.

Gina raimondo has been 10x the governor that whitmer is, is smarter, works out more, just overall outshines Whitmer on every dimension.

So explain why whitmer is top tier and raimondo isnt?

The Misogynistic pig is back.

Have some standards - being a Rhodes scholar and being fit should be lauded.

Are we republicans?

So that means you don't like Harris due to her lack of a top-tier education, right?

Howard is great — I do question what happened for law school though given her parent’s elite credentials.

I wouldnt hold whitmer’s TTT status if she grew up poor or LMC. She grew up pretty privileged!

That's funny but dumb let's hope most Americans have better critical thinking skils

Yes. Let’s hope most Americans have enough critical thinking skills to understand Biden running with an inanimate object is better than Trump.

Again, this misogyny, classism, etc. is exactly why Trump won so many Midwestern states. If the Big Ten were such a TTT, you surely wouldn't see NOVA and MOCO prostrating themselves to get into UM, MSU, Madison, Bloomington, etc. Both are heavily represented throughout the Big Ten. What you are saying is, public education is unworthy. Besides be untrue, it's pretty toilet-y morally.

UC Hastings makes sense for her. It has collapsed in the past decade, but up until the 90s, it was the place to go for Bay Area natives or people who wanted to work in the Bay. If you look at SF big law, a bunch of the older partners went to Hastings. It also had a reputation for turning out leaders in NorCal politics.

If he picks Whitmer it will be because she has the least baggage and he’s going with the “do no harm” tenet. Seems to be the only one who didn’t generate an immediate oppo dump. Other than her race doesn’t seem to be polarizing in any way and has garnered respect both with pandemic response and standing up to Trump.

Her sister attended Berkeley then Stanford Law. It’s an odd contrast.

The immediate GOP response will be "Biden bailed on picking an AA for VP. He hates Blacks."

Some people on this thread are obsessed with academic credentials. Majority of students attend their state or local schools, if they even go to college at all. But you guys want to talk about where Kamala or Whitmer went to college/law school as if thats an indicator of how good of a running mate they’ll be. Your elitism is showing

This! Let’s focus on debating records.

Are you good at math?

Rhode Island vs Michigan
electoral votes

16>4

One is very safely Democrat, the other is only likely Democrat.

One is from East Coast--as is Biden.
One is from Midwest.
