Biden's VP?

He checks a couple of the demographic boxes and made a good run at governor in Florida -- which would be a nice state to have in the Democratic electoral vote column.

Gillum is a mixed bag. He ran a GREAT campaign in Florida and came very close to winning - and he's energetic, charismatic, smart, appealing, all kinds of good stuff. But he has some investigations that I think would be difficult - even though to my mind, they shouldn't matter; I don't think they would reassure nervous voters that we can just vote blue and let things go back to normal.

I just feel like this isn't what the Biden campaign needs to be dealing with

Agree. I also 100% think it will be a woman. Too many upset about competent women continually getting bypassed.

IMO he’s in the same category as Mayor Pete and Stacey Abrams - not nearly enough experience to backstop a 70+ President.

And, honestly, he lost Florida in a Democratic wave year when Crist and Sink almost won in the R waves of 2010/2014. Disappointing.

No to Gillum.

It will be a woman, probably a woman of color.

We need a younger person- 60 or younger.

Biden will doubtless pick a 40s or younger VP like Amy or Beto or Pete (I'm betting Amy). Pence will look like even more of a stuffed shirt in comparison. Trump will probably try to blame coronavirus deaths on Pence so he has an excuse to replace him with Nikki and add some fire to his campaign.

I love Amy but she hasn’t seen 40 in a while. I think she and Pence are the same age.

just realized Amy's in her 50s... Still better than Pence, though

How about Mitt Romney in a total surprise twist?

Gillum is too scandal-prone. I like the guy but it’s too much of a distraction.

I have never heard of Val Demings but she’s 62, definitely not a fresh face.

Gretchen Whitmer is an interesting choice that I hadn’t considered before.

Awesome!

Oh, and apparently Whitmer is giving the D response to the SotU this year. So that’s interesting.

The Dems need to start grooming future candidates, Mitt is old, he's not popular within his own party, and it would alienate the progressives of the left. But yeah, for me personally? If that's what it took to oust Trump, I'd be down.

This is an important point. Biden will need someone experienced, whom voters can trust to take the reins in the event Joe develops serious health problems. So a balance of experience, charisma, appeal to the necessary demographics, and not risking a Senate seat. That's a tough one!

I think Harris or Abrams is more likely, with Gov. Witmar as a wildcard.

Good way to ensure a Trump victory.

Whitmer.

And may ensure a Biden victory.

Yes Whitmer did a grade job State of the Union.
