BRYC Girls TD Larry Best leaving for Washington Spirit

I find it telling that this thread is void of the Spirit VA DA hype man.

I guess the upcoming ECNL ID sessions will tell all.

The "hype man" is probably very upset that this is a possibility, along with the rest of us. The reason why many Spirit VA parents are so upset about this is that they like the way Torres and staff are developing their kids and they are upset about the possibility they may have to scramble to other, less preferred options. Believe it or not, there are actually many parents who have gone out of their way to avoid options such as FCV, Loudoun, BRYC, and McLean.

Coach Torres is very approachable, what is he telling you about this?

I fully understand.

My point is that this thread is currently void of anyone denying the rumors. We are talking about the possible collapse of an entire DA club (Yes, VA is a stand alone club) and the displacement of 200 kids who must find their way onto existing roster.

Time for some leadership.

Torres wants the program to continue. My sense is that this is an internal discussion and not a closed decision. I think Lynch and the staff are in the process of talking the new owner off the ledge in terms of the youth programming. Guess we'll see how that works out shortly.

I agree that Torres is in favor of the DA program continuing and moreover he is a very nice and approachable individual who answers questions in a very timely manner. From what I’ve heard from other VA Spirit parents a final decision on DA fate has not been set in stone per Torres. There are many reasons for them NOT to disband-most importantly, the fact that they are the only local DA with a professional club affiliation and how bad it would look for them to cut their youth program completely adrift. Hopefully all will be resolved in the next 1-2 months before Spring ID sessions for ECNL and DA.

Spring ID sessions have already started. The mere uncertainty will drive people away. The mom of Spirit's star 07 even reached out to FCV on twitter asking about their training. This does not look good.

The Spring ID sessions have started? There is nothing on the website about them. FCV and Arlington have advertised their sessions quite prominently.

Yes, ID sessions for DA and ECNL are being promoted. VDA has posted theirs as well.

BRYC just posted ECNL ID sessions

Last week there were a series of meetings taking place with Great Falls/Reston and all the other individuals involved for everyone to get on the same page. This just happened last week.

That sounds like Torres is acknowledging that Spirit VA closing is a possibility.

What was the result of all these meetings?

A WS shutdown is not the worse thing. The market needs to consolidate but more so in VA than MD. NoVA already has seven elite options at the younger ages and losing WSVA will help the remaining six.

MD will suffer because there are limited options already.

We’ll see shortly. If they post ID sessions it will be business as usual and all the dire garbage posted in this thread will ring meaningless. If not, the folks will have to bail to other options. It is what it is.
