Can you expand on that? |
MCPS had the same response to a serious problem at our school last year. They have athletic issues all across the county putting the safety of children at risk that Jeff Sullivan cannot wish away by tweeting #weRAISE. MCPS has no problem punishing students, but over and over again it refuses to hold coaches, athletic directors, and principals responsible for problems on teams. |
Who supervises Jeff Sullivan? Is his union different than the teacher unions? |
You could call his office and ask the secretary. I would imagine he is member of the union for school administrators since he does not teach - but I am just guessing. Sullivan's supervisor is a good question. Athletics in MCPS operates as it's own universe with it's own secret rules that they do not post online. I think the person Sullivan would answer to is Dr. Zuckerman. Beyond that it's Dr. Smith. My dilemma is who to school athletic directors answer to - the school principal or Jeff Sullivan? Sullivan is rarely at a school and how involved does he get when there is a serious coaching problem? The crap rains down on a principal if stuff happens on a athletic team and the principal would have a better idea if athletic problems are due to bad athletic directors. |
| Athletics also as a good old boy, buddy buddy culture. Friends hire friends. Friends work with friends. The code among coaches and athletic directors is to cover each other's butts when they screw up and hope the media doesn't report. |
Good thing we re-elected the same damned school board again this year!! MoCo voters are complete and utter uninformed idiots! We showed up and voted for ‘ corrupt. ‘ |
| If I worked as a principal in MCPS and was one of Sullivan’s buddies, I’d start distancing myself. No more tweeting out his raise tweets or his congratulatory emails about new fields or cheerleading championships. He’s got a total mark on his head after this Damascus stuff, and with reporters sniffing around, his days are numbered. |
Good! I hope Bethesda Magazine, WaPo and others KEEP digging and reporting. Thank you! |
| Stay on the ball, people. Individuals must be held accountable. |
| The press release\communication was not appropriate. There WAS an indication that this was not a one time incident based on the police report which documented one of the offenders saying it happened to him. Maybe it didn't but boy the administration was quick to defend the Varsity Football's team right to keep their winning streak alive. Not sure how I feel about that BUT it was embarrassing that the administration come out so strongly. These are kids, they are school, not sure the level of evidence needs to be enough to convict in court before they take action. I also totally agree that students are punish WAY before teachers and administration and that is just messed up. |
Keep digging and they will find some stinky crap. Someone should start by looking at his track record as a high school athletic director. There's skeletons in Sullivan's closet. |
| Charged as juveniles, must be AA or Hispanic. Hi |
| The Post surely and Bethesda Mag will drop it if a protected minority is among the perpetrators. They have demonstrated this over and over. No surprise. |

More victims discovered. This is just horrendous. I think there should be a pause for all winter teams that have had complaints and MCPS should reexamine the responsibility of leadership on those teams and in the schools. MCPS needs to clean house and stop bullying and hazing in all it's forms so another incident like Damascus never happens again.
