Metropolitan DC Local Politics
| I don't think this store's location poses any threat to the kids at the school. Law abiding citizens looking to obtain a legal firearm aren't threats. The store displays weapons that are not loaded... I have no problem with my kids seeing a store that sells legal firearms out in our daily commute. If it is there legally, it is there legally. All that said, I still think it was a stupid decision on the part of both the landlord & shop owner. Anyone with any sense could see these problems with the public coming from a mile away. Did they really think it would be just fine? Was there really nowhere else to go? They couldn't wait for a better location to become available? Was it worth all of the negative publicity? |
Name ONE law that would have prevented the Oregon tragedy. There is no such thing as common sense gun control. |
Why? It is a lawful legitimate business and played no part in the Oregon shooting, or any other. By that logic, President Obama should resign for the economy he has destroyed the world he has set ablaza. |
Of course he has. VA is an open carry state. The quiet people in McLean do have guns. He shot himself in his liberal foot on this one. Never, ever take on an issue that does not have a legal foundation. What's he going to do? Bully the gun shop out of McLean? Perfectly legal. He's toast now. He was a fool in the 10th congressional race with all his sexist attacks on Barbara and now he's lost what he had of his constituent base - minus a few shrilly moms who can't explain coherently on the news why the gun shop needs to go., |
Hope you're not waiting for an answer. There isn't one. The pres said to politicize this and his minions will. Another psycho in a gun-free zone, same as 100% of the others. |
The Dranesville District is in Fairfax, unlike the 10th Congressional District, which includes a bunch of right wing lunatics in Loudoun and Manassas. Herndon, Falls Church and McLean voters should ensure Foust's re-election, with most of Chronis's support coming from Great Falls. Which, in case you haven't noticed, is losing people even as the populations of Herndon and McLean grow. |
A few shrilly moms? Try to keep your woman-hating under control. Of course, I do recognize that some pushing guns near schools are women, though they tend not to live in McLean and some of the most strident have no children. |
Here's how much clout Foust has: The Dranesville District Democrat facebook page has just 500 members. Only three have checked in lately. I'm still waiting for the liar to tell me where Comstock was involved . . . she hasn't been. Only Foust and a few minions. The rest os us in McLean are pro-gun choice and own guns. You can jump up and down all you like but VA is an open carry state. McLean is in VA. The gun shop is perfectly legal. Once again, Foust opens his mouth and puts his foot in it. And this WILL be remembered. |
Go watch the T.V. coverage. All shrilly moms who have nothing to say but "This is wrong!" but can't explain why. Where are the men except Foust? It's safer to have the gun shop there near the school than not. The people who do these mass shootings are not the people who buy from a registered AFT dealer in McLean. They use underground and stolen guns and are not registered. This attention that Foust and others are trying to bring to the matter will just have the opposite effect. We will all frequent the gun store and the Auto Shop (thank you - 20 years in McLean and never went there) and will vote Foust out of office If you want to take proper action, go and try and change the zoning laws. Don't go on TV and make a fuss when there is no legal recourse. |
I would be careful with the language here. You may mean Foust's positions will be remembered on Election Day, but you didn't say that. It comes across as a threat against an elected official. |
|
I had not planned to vote in November but now will be casting my vote for Foust. This issue is too important to ignore.
America has more than 1 mass shootings (4 + victims) per day this year already. It's like a third word country in terms of safety. |
Me, too. And I am going to contribute money to Foust. |
|
Me, three. I was undecided before. But, Foust came out and came out strong. I appreciate his stance even if he might lose some votes. He gained mine. And I may just get a sign to put in my lawn. This is part of a larger issue of people using scare tactics to deflect from what is happening in our country.
And the fact that the pro-gun folks compare guns to fast food and don't understand why it makes no sense to have a gun store next to a school shows how disconnected they are from reality. |

| I'm with you folks. I have mixed feelings about John Foust. I think if he'd played a more active role in spurring the redevelopment of McLean, we would have better retail and you wouldn't find a low-brow business like a gun store able to afford rent there. On the other hand, he came out quickly and strongly in opposition to the location of the gun store adjacent to Franklin Sherman, and from all indications Jennifer Chronis is no different than all the other standard-issue Republican candidates. She had a chance to show that she's attuned to the concerns of her would-be constituents and she totally blew it. |
