The rules for the permit are as follows so your ignorance is noted regarding "giving anyone a gun" Florida is considered a “shall-issue” state, which allows any individual that meets the requirements to obtain a concealed weapons permit. The applicant must be 21 years of age, pass mental health tests, have a clean criminal record and take a gun safety course to be eligible for a concealed weapons permit, according to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. There are a total of 879,787 concealed permit issuances in the state of Florida, according to a report by the Division of Licensing. Laura Wahlquist, an assistant state attorney, said she doesn’t think the availability of concealed weapons permits is a significant indicator of increased crime. In Florida, only 168 concealed weapons permits have been revoked due to misconduct with a firearm, according to a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services report. “In my experience, most of those charged with weapons offenses are those who are not in possession of guns legally to begin with,” Wahlquist said. “If people care enough to go through the procedures to license themselves properly then they probably won’t commit a crime with that added permission.” For more information on concealed weapons permits, visit http://www.freshfromflorida.com. |
Please reread - that's not remotely what I said. Obviously. |

PP, case in point. No psych eval to have a gun. Thanks for confirming. |
Yes you do , see the part about need to pass mental health tests. |
|
How vague are those mental health tests? About as vague as the need to carry? |
|
So should I used my licensed gun to pick off my PITA neighbor or my unlicensed one? |
So the state of Florida MUST (no discretion) issue a concealed weapons permit (in other words, so someone can carry a handgun in public, without any of his or her unsuspecting vict . . . er, fellow citizens knowing) to anyone over 21 years old UNLESS he or she is crazy (and by crazy, they mean previously adjudicated as mentally defective or incapacitated, or actually committed to an institution - no mental health assessment is performed at the time you apply for damn thing), or been convicted of a felony (or one of another very limited set of crimes). That fits pretty squarely within my definition of "giving anyone a gun." |
No, you don't. You have to not have been "adjudicated incapacitated, adjudicated as a mental defective, or committed to a mental institution[.]" http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/weapons/cw_license_eligibility_requirements_web.pdf |
Sounds sufficient, do you need to pass a mental test to purchase a knife or automobile. |
If this is true, nearly 5% of Floridians have concealed carry permits. That's horrifying. |
Most States allow anyone to open carry including Virginia. In Mclean it is common to see open Cary at the supermarket i have a few times this month. |
Welcome to America |
2005 Gallup Poll showed 4/10 americans have a gun in their house. 47% of men reported owning a firearms. If you look at crime stats, DC has some of the strictest gun control laws yet had 99 murders in 2010 and was at the top of the list in the country for firearm murders with 16/100,000. There is a vast difference between weapon ownership and crimes committed with weapons. Law abiding citizens who go through the courses, etc in order to obtain a concealed carry permit are generally not committing crimes. Criminals obtain their guns in illegal manners, and carry concealed weapons illegally. |

Game changing witness testimony??? If its true, then self-defense almost sounds reasonable?

It still depends on who initiated the physical altercation. |
