The rules for the permit are as follows so your ignorance is noted regarding "giving anyone a gun"

Florida is considered a “shall-issue” state, which allows any individual that meets the requirements to obtain a concealed weapons permit.

The applicant must be 21 years of age, pass mental health tests, have a clean criminal record and take a gun safety course to be eligible for a concealed weapons permit, according to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

There are a total of 879,787 concealed permit issuances in the state of Florida, according to a report by the Division of Licensing.

Laura Wahlquist, an assistant state attorney, said she doesn’t think the availability of concealed weapons permits is a significant indicator of increased crime.

In Florida, only 168 concealed weapons permits have been revoked due to misconduct with a firearm, according to a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services report.

“In my experience, most of those charged with weapons offenses are those who are not in possession of guns legally to begin with,” Wahlquist said. “If people care enough to go through the procedures to license themselves properly then they probably won’t commit a crime with that added permission.”
