I'd rather American kids be able to access financial aid, and that not only those whose families can afford $90K a year are able to attend. Right now at all these schools, international students are subsidizing U.S. students.

PP again. This also has implications well beyond Harvard. What international student would want to study in the U.S. these days, if they know they can be sent home at a moment's notice? If you have a kid who will be attending college in the next few years--even if Harvard is not at all on your radar--and you cannot pay full freight, you should be very worried. This could drastically change admissions strategies at schools across the board.

My son studied in Italy last year. In the process of obtaining his student visa, we were informed of a list of actions that could get him “sent home at a moments” notice. Getting arrested was one of them.

So what? He was a guest in their country and has to play by their rules.

Again with the stupidity. What students got arrested to warrant getting kicked out of Harvard over the course of one afternoon??? This has nothing to do with the students and everything to do with Trump being a fascist dictator who thinks he can do whatever the hell he wants to whomever he wants.

Plenty of them have gotten themselves arrested for protesting and disturbing the peace. But I realize that is not the conversation here. Point is, countries set their own rules.

Sure, but In America the rule should not be that you don't get a student visa if you enroll at a university that won't let the president control the curriculum. That's what's happening here.

Trump wants this so badly to be among immigration and international students, but it's simply about him being a man-child, dictator who does criminal things wherever he can to get his way. Harvard said no to him so the international students pay.

Why not? The president was elected by the American people to serve our best interests.

If anyone thinks that the US will be further ahead in education and more able to compete in this world because of this action or the similar ones of the past few months, they are greatly mistaken. We are fully dumbing down the country. To be fair, the recent extreme DEI was also stupid. But it was fixable. This won't be.

I'm not sure if Harvard has enough domestic applicants to make up the international shortfall, so I guess we will see how that shapes up.

A funny thing happened on the way to the admissions game. When spots for Americans open up, more apply.

Americans are stupid. They can’t even read. We need more internationals because they are actually smart. CHINA is the future of technology!

They come here and steal all our shit.
No thank you.

Why do you think this is good? I’m honestly curious. This seems bonkers to me.

Np. There is growing sentiment, across many circles I am in, that American universities should be for Americans. Maybe no more than 5% international. The global vs. homegrown balance has gotten out of whack.

Then those people can run for Congress or support candidates for Congress who support policies that would change the number of international student visas allowed each year. Its illegal for the President to change the rules for one school under the 14th amendment. Equal protection under the law is a Constitutional right.

Just because International students have more potential than your niece doesn't make it wrong for international students to study there. Your niece should work harder. International students shouldn't have to suffer for this.

As an American, I have no personal duty or obligation to international students. My country‘s duty and obligation is to its own citizens.

Getting the best and brightest to live and work in our country is looking out for our country. A lot our scientists are immigrants, many who came here as foreign students.

Spoken like a true hypocritical progressive elitist.

I am a moderate and far from elitist. My parent were blue collar workers.

What i am is not afraid of my children having to compete with foreigners.

I’m not “afraid” of them having to compete with foreigners either. I just believe that my kids, and yours, should have certain advantages and benefits conveyed to them simply because they are Americans.

I think my kids should get cheap iPhones. Let’s force Apple to reduce their prices.

? Wut

I don't think people understand: Trump is punishing a private institution based on their statements. This is a blatant violation of First Amendment rights.

If you care about rights and freedoms at all, you should be upset.

Funny how Republicans used to be for limited government intervention, and yet Trump can't stop meddling with private institutions.

Couldn't have said it better. Americans don't bow to tyrants, even elected ones.

They are too blinded by the possibility that Suzie might somehow, miraculously get into Harvard now. Trump played them.

To be accurate, the government’s stated reason for this action is that Harvard refused to provide international students’ disciplinary records.

Obviously, there’s a bigger agenda, but not an unreasonable request on its face.

That plus Stephen Miller wants no immigrants here at all.

Agree. It’s bc Harvard refused to discipline large swaths of international students.
