Harvard no longer allowed to enroll international students

Anonymous
I can't believe this is our life now.

We dont even know the impact. When we have a grandkid die of some disease or some technology isn't invented that will allow us to stay in our homes or the planet starts flooding in ways we didn't anticipate, will we think - there was a student who was thinking about this, but didn't get that visa and ended up at xyz instead, in their homeland, without the peer group and resources and it didn't happen.

If parents think this si good for their kids it's not. Their kid still won't get in. I was never the international students it was your kids potential.

Why do you think this is good? I’m honestly curious. This seems bonkers to me.

Np. There is growing sentiment, across many circles I am in, that American universities should be for Americans. Maybe no more than 5% international. The global vs. homegrown balance has gotten out of whack.

And he still can't make Harvard admit them.

What % of Harvard's last year undergraduate class was international (this order is only for undergrads, right)?

This is a wild swing from the 90s when it was a huge selling point to have kids from as many countries as possible.

Yeah, but maybe the pendulum went too far. 0 isn't right either, but there's got to be balance.

Don't disagree.

Even If you agree with the premise, you do realize this is bananas? That the federal government blackmailing universities to comply with its demands is counter to everything the US stands for? I can’t believe some people are ok with an authoritative regime bc they think it means their kid gets a better shot at an Ivy.

I agree somewhat, when we are talking about public university that American tax dollars are supporting. But Harvard?

27% of total enrollment were international students - this is absurd for an American university and hasn't gotten out of control
