Why is the comparison between a doodle and an American pit bull terrier mix? Why not a Chow or German Shepherd? Cane Corso? Nope because you know that those other dogs can also be tough. Remember when those dogs were the "baddies?"

Mostly because owners of Chows, Shepherds (of all varieties), Akitas, Rottweilers, etc are aware that their dogs were bred for things that might make them unfit for happy family fun times pets (Cane Corsos, too, but their owners are starting to blur the line and breed them with pit bulls. Because that’s what the world needed). That they require experienced owners. That they’re not for everyone.

Meanwhile pit bull owners are out there, barely able to hold back their lunging dogs, insisting that pit bulls were bred to be “nanny dogs” (nope! they were bred to take down bears in a fighting ring!) and are nothing but lovable couch potatoes. You know we can all see when you post that your dog has shredded your couch, right? We can see when you publicly ask for help because your pit bulls is drawing blood or ate the cat and the tranquilizers aren’t enough. We know when you jokingly post if anyone’s seen your dog again because she got out, again, and she’s not fixed (of course not! Might want to breed that and list the puppies for $1K).

One could ask why you guys compare the limb ripping, blood splattering aggression of pit bulls to chihuahuas.

First of all, awareness is not the criteria that these articles are going for. You can't tell me that all the people who own Chows, German Shepherds etc are aware that their dog is capable of killing or attacking. They all think "not my dog!" Btw, my dd when two was knocked over by a huge golden retriever "just being friendly" Yes it didn't bite her but, it could have given her a concussion and it scared her.

My dog has never destroyed anything of mine and he loves to cuddle with me on the couch. Then again he is only 33 percent American pit bull terrier! And wrong again because we did neuter him.

The real bad guys don't say that there dog is a nanny dog you fool. They have the dogs chained in the backyard. Giving no medical care, food, water or love of a family.

We should crack down on all those who mistreat dogs and not allow backyard dogs. Then we will see maulings and attacks go down

not one of these breeders say that they are "bred to attack people or bulls"

Most of the breeders just show them dangling off of ropes to show their biddability with a subtext that they'd do great in a fight ring, but point taken I guess?

The pit bull owner is really going to whine about a gregarious golden retriever knocking a child over? May I turn the pit bull line around - how did your child provoke the retriever? You know any dog can be happy. Why haven’t you taught your child proper dog manners?

Against thousands of people and animals dead and maimed, and untold unreported bites, the reflex to defend the pit bull breeds, all bred for violence, is really something.

I had a dog look at me wrong once. I'm now advocating for every dog to be euthanized. Every one of them. None of them can 100% be proven to be without a deadly breed or some sort of incident causing ancestor in their make-up.

Enough with all the companion animals. I'm looking at you boa constrictors. Your turn is next.

What a strange, sad post.

Regretfully, until people like you come to your senses, all of us are taking on the risk of you owning a breed that was and is still bred for violence. Your dogs are notorious for escaping, including the ability to scale tall fences and to chew through weaker ones. Your dogs are incredibly fecund, with litters around 15-20 not even a little uncommon (which makes sense; if you’re breeding for killing off a certain number, you want to be able to replace them quickly). You bring your poorly trained, poorly socialized, aggressive dogs to dog parks and regular parks where you indulge in letting them off the leash and when they begin going for a dog or a child, you obliviously call out “he’s friendly” as he’s terrorizing people. You say “bad owners” should be punished, but I’ve yet to see any of you actually advocate for accountability when your dogs eat livestock or destroy things or kill people.

You want to play cute and pretend that they’re something they’re not? That would be fine. But we’re all taking on the risk you so blithely undertake.

My child was standing there minding her own business while I was talking to the neighbor. She did nothing. Dog ran over and knocked her to the ground.

Of course you are blaming a two year old! The nerve of the exsisting.

I don't do any of that. Not because I don't trust my dog but because I don't trust yours.

You are smoking something if you blame all pit bulls for one dog that looked at you "wrong" i could say the same thing about men who kill or rape..because some do it than all are suspect and should be in jail. But we don't because we know you can't blame every man for a few

You're right, pitbull owners are awful. They are in denial that pit bulls were bred as fighting dogs. People purchase dogs based on their breed traits. Some dogs were bred to herd sheep, other dogs were bred for hunting, and so on and so forth.

Please tell me where you got your degree in Veterinary behaviorist? Most "pit bull" breeds are not bred for anything. They are stray and not fixed so they breed. Sure there are some breeders who specialize in purebreds and none of them say "created to fight bulls"

SMH Apparently I need to state the obvious since you got confused about my statement about pit bulls being bred to fight. I was talking about breed traits. The pit bull breed was bred to be a fighting dog. Like retrievers are bred to be retrievers, like border, collies, and other shepherd, dogs were bred to herd livestock and so on and so forth.

A woman was killed by multiple pit bulls around Halloween not far from my town. Backyard breeder son. For people who blame owners and not the dogs, why is it that there is a concentration of bad owners with this breed? Are beagle owners just better people?

But they aren't anymore! I get your "point" but it is incorrect. Most of the dogs are mixed and accidently bred!

Because of the reputation of the "pit bull breeds" yes there are bad actors who are attracted to the dog. But, if treated right than they will not attack. So, tough guys aren't going to look tough with a beagle or a golden doodle.

We need to crack down hard on these people. Throw them in jail for mistreating dogs. Fine them $$$$$

No! The inherent breed trait is animal aggression and gameness. When a pit bull matures its inherent trait is aggression toward another animal even one’s larger than itself. You should never trust a pit bull with other animals. Children get attacked because they are small and move like prey. You treat them wonderfully and still end up with an animal that killed your neighbors dog or cat, child or you.

It’s a DOG, you imbecile. Why are you defending these awful animals so vehemently? It’s not analogous to any human situation you can imagine because, again, it’s a DOG.

Please don’t compare being knocked over by a friendly pet with getting mauled by a pit bull.

What are you throwing them in jail for? According to the other thread, tying up a pit bull and letting them bark all day in their yard is perfectly fine.
