As I read the article, it seems the teachers did not have authority to search the boy’s body (like his pants pockets) without permission from the admin. Multiple teachers asked, admin refused every time. EVEN after another child said he had seen the gun and been threatened with it. No one also called the parents. I have no hope for this world. Awful. |
Public schools in many areas have their hands tied by admin and school disyrict leaders. |
Stop making up excuses. Superintendent Parker had his hands tied by NO ONE. He CHOOSE to ignore mounting evidence that the shooter should never have been allowed in that school without an armed police officer. The school librarian has reported that virtually EVERY day, staff and students are “hit, bitten and beaten”. Yet Parker refuses to take appropriate action. For what reason does the departing Mr. Parker deserve a severance package? He should be charged with gross negligence resulting in this (not shocking) shooting. Apparently the perpetrator had already made threats. |
PP here. Truly, I'm not trying to make excuses for anyone. Just sharing how/why public schools in many areas have deteriorated since I began working in them years ago. Many admin and district leaders interpret the federal regs very tightly and ignore commonsense. |
Astonishing how many of you are willing to risk your basic safety just to accommodate corrupted higher-ups. You should be revolting en mass when they refuse to remove perpetrators who are repeatedly violent and threaten bodily harm to school staff or students. |
That is madness. |
That is a completely mind-blowing and soul-crushing chain of events. “He has little pockets.” “The school day is almost over.” I cannot even imagine what it took for terrified kid who actually saw the gun and was threatened to tell someone what happened – and still nothing. This is beyond disgraceful. |
See something, say something has been drilled in their heads. The kid did... and for what? Nothing. |
So true. That poor child was brave enough to speak up to adults, who did NOTHING. |
This is indeed turning out to be a disgraceful failure to save lives. Thank goodness the teacher prevented the other children from getting shot. I hope she never has to work another day in her life after this lawsuit. |
I absolutely agree with you in theory but having been in a dangerous school situation more than once it was more complex than I can fully explain, especially dealing with very sick or traumatized young children. I have vowed never to let myself stay in a situation like that again, but who knows what my resolve will be if it happens again |
Are they going to try the shooter as an adult and press charges? They also need to sue and bankrupt the terrible parents. Make an example out of this crime. |
There is no possible way to fry a six-year-old as an adult. If he were 16 I would be on board, but no. |
I don’t know that trying an obviously seriously mentally ill child is a good idea (or even a tenable option), but the parents who knew exactly what they were dealing with and willfully failed to prevent it should be held responsible in any and every way possible. And some extra damages for that BS “the gun was secured, we’re victims, too” statement they put out. Eff that noise. Too many parents and teachers do absolutely everything right to try to keep their kids and others safe from harm. These people couldn’t do the bare minimum – unload the gun that was unsecured on a shelf. Infuriating. |
Was there a murder? No I would say the state needs to take the child |
