Unless it stays as is and you are one of those who just don't tip...

...which is how these fuggers like it.

Totally CHEAP OF YOU not to give $5 (or whatever) of your own money.

Yes, I tip on carryout at restaurants that we frequent. If I don't feel like spending money, we eat at home. If you eat or drink out, you can help out others that are serving you in some manner.

So typical of DCUM...where did you go for Christmas break? Private schools, SLACS, enrichment this and that, test prepping, blah blah blah.

WHAT, you want me to leave a few bucks for carryout, are you nuts???

New poster: what a load of crap. People who don’t tip for things that aren’t true service OR historically things people tip for, doesn’t mean they are cheap when it comes to giving to others. I don’t like leave a tip for picking up carry out (very rare) but I’m extremely generous. It’s not black or white. Similarly, you’re not giving just because you do this. This is a very new thing - having an iPad screen that seems a tip for something like this or having a line item of tip when you online order carry out. This isn’t how it’s always been. A cab driver, waitress, manicurist or hair cutter? Sure. Many others are now new, and they aren’t paid a few bucks an hour.

+1. These are the same pushy, Karen-esque, drama queens who used to bleat around here about password sharing a few years ago. It's now the norm because it's common sense. They are just sheep that do something (because a celebrity said so) that makes them feel (because a celebrity said it should) and now are shocked and upset that others are not as stupid as they are!

Touched a nerve that you aren't generous, so you call other people who disagree with you stupid.

Touched a nerve that you don’t like being called out for your stupidity

I'm not the one complaining, dear.

You sound like the disgruntled service worker I suspect you are. A gift card is same as cash. It's none of your concern who actually PAID for it. Do you tip McDonald's workers? I suspect you don't. Shameful of you.

I was looking to see how much to tip an Uber driver, my first time using the app, and came across a study that said only 16% of trips include a tip. Also only 1% tip every time!

I couldn’t believe it, but it says it was an analysis of 40 million rides so must be pretty accurate. I would have guessed north of 50% would tip.

DP That person could be a "disgruntled service worker" which just means one of the people you like to stiff on the regular and you couldn't give a sh*t about. I'd say whoever they are they've got your number and it doesn't feel good to you.

I bet that the Uber thing doesn't include cash tips, though, and only counts ones made through the service.

I don't use Uber, but I do tip cab drivers well if the service is at least marginally competent.

Nah. Most people don’t carry cash. With Uber, upon the completion of your ride, you are sent an email and can add a tip at that time.

The OP shouldn't go to restaurants if they are not going to tip. It doesn't have to be 20 percent. The worker deserved a couple of bucks.

I really dislike the tipping screen that forces you to press no tip or a percent or dollar amount while the cashier looks at you that have popped up in the past year. It has made me reluctant to get take out at these places. Prices have increased as well. I just bought an expensive coffee maker to brew my own coffee and started buying take to bake products at supermarkets.

Yep. I should be able to suspend the constitution for others when I feel like it!

I rarely ever take Uber, but reading this forum made me think way more people tip Uber drivers. I'm inclined to believe your study though. It used to be that part of the appeal of Uber was not having to tip. Last time I took an Uber, the driver didn't say a word to us (2 women, midday) the entire trip. His driving was fine, as was his English (based on his asking if we were FirstName LastName upon pickup). BUt then nothing. Which is fine, but what exactly would I be tipping for in that situation? Not sure. Tipping used to be for service above and beyond.

THe whole thing has become perplexing

Yes, you should be able to not tip without the indignity of admitting you think that is appropriate!

I should have identified myself as an NP. I wasn’t complaining, DEAR. Simply calling you stupid.

NP here, this tipping culture is out of hand, what's next, tip the receptionist at the doctor's office? Maybe $20 of your medical bill? No one should get a tip for merely doing their jobs.
