I was looking to see how much to tip an Uber driver, my first time using the app, and came across a study that said only 16% of trips include a tip. Also only 1% tip every time! I couldn’t believe it, but it says it was an analysis of 40 million rides so must be pretty accurate. I would have guessed north of 50% would tip. https://www.marketwatch.com/amp/story/this-analysis-of-40-million-uber-rides-reveals-whether-men-or-women-are-the-most-generous-tippers-2019-10-24
I rarely ever take Uber, but reading this forum made me think way more people tip Uber drivers. I'm inclined to believe your study though. It used to be that part of the appeal of Uber was not having to tip. Last time I took an Uber, the driver didn't say a word to us (2 women, midday) the entire trip. His driving was fine, as was his English (based on his asking if we were FirstName LastName upon pickup). BUt then nothing. Which is fine, but what exactly would I be tipping for in that situation? Not sure. Tipping used to be for service above and beyond. THe whole thing has become perplexing
