Good pick. Pride wins but stars covers.

Congrats to both Stars and Pride for really good NGLL seasons. The two teams were a combined 3-11 last year in NGLL (excluding head to head). This year, they went 9-5 on that stat. Pretty huge improvement.

As for today's game, first half was well-played (6-3 Pride). Second half devolved a bit, with lots of whistles, cards, and parents yelling at the refs and generally whining. TBH, this was mostly one side's parents, and not a good look--it detracts from the girls' experience. And they can hear you...

8-5 final score.

On the positive side, the level of play for both teams has improved a lot this year, and Stars' game is much cleaner than before. Some really talented players on both teams as well. Both teams' defenses deserve a big shout out and all four goalies were great today! Congrats to the players and good luck for a great tournament season.

Good solid game and gives some local hope since some of these girls will be together on Capital in a couple years.

Sloppy play all around and whiny parents on both sides.

Great hard fought game. Kudos to Pride. Thought they outcoached Stars today

Lots of cards and Pride down 2 players in the 2nd half?

It was a sloppy game. Pride players were a little more hungry at the start, and jumped out to a 4-0 lead, I think.
The second half strategy by Pride seemed to work... play physical, and take chances on swinging for the check, , and chew up the clock. It was evident 5 yellow cards earned by Pride.
Much improved records by both teams from the previous year.

How about the “ticky tack” offsides tantrum? Was that a Pride parent?

Several cards for Stars as well in the second half. One of Pride's was a strong, but not unusual, cross check on a ride that caught a Stars player off balance. Another was totally non-contact. Refs called a tight game and did a good job overall. Girls on both teams kept their composure and played hard until the whistle.

Parents didn't do as well as their daughters on the composure angle.

Ridiculous. Big guy filming under the press box. Dad of a Stars player well known for yelling at refs. Foghorn voice.

Anonymous wrote:Not sure if you are paying attention, but there has been some stratification at the top. Coppermine has been unbeatable vs other mid-atlantic teams since last Spring. MDU is improving, and they have the best individual player in the region, but has been erratic. Pride 2028 tied them last Summer, for example. M&D is struggling against top competition. Heroes Green is beatable. Pride had a lead going into the last 10 minutes and lost by 1 in November. Lots of changes as players develop. Should be a very interesting Spring. I'm hoping a DMV team beats one of the top 5 this year. It's not impossible. And no merger necessary... We can wait for Capital.

If we can take a break between parents pointing fingers...

It has been an interesting afternoon in MD. Skywalkers, who both Pride and Stars beat this year, just beat M&D Black.
SW now plays Heroes Green at 5:30 pm.

So far, only the number 1 and 2 seeds are set--Coppermine (post above aged well) and Crush respectively.

Possible 3 way tie for 3rd if Skywalkers pulls the unlikely double upset. 2 way tie for 4th if not. Pride would be involved in each of those ties but would lose out on Goals Against, the third tiebreaker after record and head to head.

Still, pretty impressive to get to tiebreakers for a DMV team, with the big 5 from MD, and 5 out of the top 6 in the country, in the division.
