That also tracks with my real world experience.

In short: she doesn’t understand the plight of the Jews because she’s spent her life believing stereotypes. Her worldview is that Jews hold all the power. They’re the most powerful, privileged of the whites. As such, how could they really know suffering?

And as a black person, she sees black/white racism as the sole lens of everything. It’s a very American way of thinking, and it’s not new.

I bet you a million bucks that if you asked Whoopi or any black person her age how she feels about Asians, she would probably argue they aren’t a persecuted race either. She would say they are practically white and privileged. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that from older black Americans.

I’m wondering how many frank conversations you’ve had about race and ethnicity in mixed groups? I’ve participated in several over the last two decades in both professional and social settings. Full disclosure: my day job is in the SJW space, and foundations have invested in professionally facilitated discussions that are quite eye opening. My takeaway: Asians are upset that they are essentially considered white and privileged by black people since the Asian stereotype is a success story. There’s more; each group has its own perspective and lens. Honestly, white people are typically the ones who can most easily see that each group experiences racism and all of it is wrong. Put another way: anti-black racism isn’t worse or harsher than anti-Asian or anti-Muslim or anti-whatever racism/bias. It’s all bad.

I’ve literally been in professionally facilitated racial reckonings in cities big and small across the country focused on these issues. The Jewish angle is rarely addressed (but islamaphobia typically is). When antisemitism is raised, racial minorities are quick to distinguish it since Jews are white and hold power. It’s dismissive and glaringly inappropriate. [/quote]
