Does this mean that the GOP can finally dump Trump? That would certainly be an excellent silver lining. You can do it! Grow a spine! |
I have a lot of hate for Rs. It's no secret. And I don't mind going low. |
|
But didn’t Ciaterelli lose (albeit narrowly)? Which further proves the point that sticking with Trump means alienating the independent voters that can win elections. |
PP here. To be clear I’m not arguing with you, PP above me. I’m arguing the Trump and Ronna are wrong about this. |
Ciatterelli lost but he flipped back tons of areas that had gone hard for Biden. |
This is the conundrum facing Republicans in 2022 and beyond. In order to flip congressional seats and state governorships, and eventually the WH, they need to sway some moderates and independents, but it was those very voters whose votes in 2020 were actually more against Trump than for Biden. Unseating Dems in purple/swing areas is not going to be accomplished by being Trumpy or trotting him out on the campaign trail, but they also can’t have his base turn on them. It’s a tightrope to walk but Youngkin showed how it can be done. |
He didn’t actually distance himself from Trump. The attraction to school board issues issues, masking, school openings- all Trumpian. And Trump thanked his base for Youngkin's win.
|
False. I'm a liberal Dem who hates Trump, knows that CRT is being taught in our schools and, can't wait to see how Youkin deals with it. |
Generally the Republican candidates end up opposing such measures. Even Newt Gingrich backed off when they took control of Congress. |
Which in the end, is still a loss. Had he distanced himself just a little more, perhaps he would have appealed to just a few more voters. |
I'm pretty surprised at the NJ results (I grew up in NJ). Their state was up +15 R, even though the R lost, where VA was up +12 R but the R won. |
. Lawyers are on their way up there to address the voting issues in Bergen county |
Well that’s what happens when 100+ of the vote is counted but *ooops* we forgot these and these and these. |
