Yes Visi won ISL championship in 2011 when they beat the Saints in OT. Banner is hanging in Visi gym.

Things have changed a lot since then. Saints have not even been the best team in Alexandria for the past several years.

Some years, second best team in Alexandria is good for top 5 in the entire U S of A.

The post you quote is really old. Holton did not live up to Holton parents hype last year. Unlikely to be any better this year. Visi OTOH is going to be one to beat this year. The strong new coach and assist from last year are back. Amazing senior class and fantastic freshman class. Visi lost to BI by only 1 two weeks ago. Look for Visi to take SSSAS this year.

+2 for this. We saw the BI and Visi game. Both are very strong teams and it could have gone either way for the final score. Agree that someone is trolling.

Yes,that BI girls team is stacked. Crazy number of top DI program recruits at every grade. Standouts flocking to play for Sofield. Visi also looks great for next few years. SSSAS doesn’t have much until the current freshmen age up. Look for SSSAS to be weaker than in recent past for next couple of years.

Will be interesting to see how all 3 managed in their recruiting for next years freshman class.

Visi and SSSA both tried hard to get a girl who chose Holton for 9th next year.

And Holton has tried hard for girls who ultimately went to Visi and SSSA. What is the point? Stop trying to insert Holton into the conversation, they are not at the same level as Visi & SSSA when it comes to lacrosse.

The Post ranks all three teams in top 10 for DC with Visi at 7 and Holton at 8.

When was the last time Visi won an ISL Championship?

Visi won about five-six years ago? It was back when the ISL championship was determined solely by the winner of the regular season. SSSAS won the tournament that year which is what most people remembered, so Visi’s banner was overshadowed. Now if different teams win the regular season and the tournament they are considered co-champions, but that is a relatively recent change for the ISL. I don’t have kids at either Visi or Saints but I played college lax and paid some attention to what was the top girls’ rivalry at the time.

OMG CONGRATS!!!!! One banner is SUPER COOL... i lost count of SSSAS banners a long time ago

And Visitation is nowhere near Holton Arms when it comes to academics.

+1000

I would take the great academics and very strong (even if not top two) lacrosse any day over Visi and SSSA.

First, Holton's academics are not that much better than Visi's. Both regularly send many girls to top colleges and universities, AND in the context of this thread and conversation, Visi sends significantly more girls to play lacrosse at Ivies and other top schools than Holton does, by a looong shot. Second, Holton is not a "very strong lacrosse" program. It is mediocre at best. SSSAS and Visi have nationally lacrosse recognized programs. Holton isnt even a minor player. Its a nonentity.

Why so harsh? "Mediocre" and "nonentity"? Sounds like someone's kid didn't get into Holton.

Visi sends significantly more girls to play lacrosse at Ivies top school than Holton does, by a looong shot? Let's see. Visi had 3 D1 commits in the 2017 class; Harvard, Brown and Occidental. Holton had 1; William and Mary. For the 2018 class, Visi has 2, Yale and Georgetown. Holton has 2, Stanford and Johns Hopkins. For 2019, Visi has 3, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and Fairfield. Holton has 2, Harvard and UC Davis. I wouldn't say either school sends a significant amount of girls to play lacrosse in college, nor would I say that Visi beats Holton by a looong shot.

Both are good schools. Holton has the edge academically, and Visi has the edge with lacrosse.

What about SSSAS?? they have more D1 commits than anyone...not to mention they are going to very difficult academic schools too. In the 2018 class; Navy, Virginia Tech, UC Davis, and two going to UVA. In the 2019 class; Princeton, UPenn, Columbia, UVA. In the 2020 class; UNC

More importantly, for the long term, Visi seems to finally have a strong coach who is (hopefully) unwilling to let school parents and school politics dictate what girls are on her Varsity and who gets playing time.

Visi has had 4 different coaches in 6 years. What makes you think anything will be any different. Its still the same regime.

I guess we all just have to wait and see.

I think Visi has a real shot at the ISL banner this year and that makes me happy. I’m hoping Visi’s administration has finally learned to stop interfering and listening to parents and players with axes to grind - but they will have learned that lesson, the one great programs already know, at the expense of several good coaches and that’s a shame.

If Visi does take the banner, I hope the current coach realizes she’s coaching an extraordinary group of seniors who were recruited by the last set of coaches. Four years of playing together in season and out will produce a strong, even dominant, team. Go Cubs!

Curious how this would be a good indicator of who is top dog in the IAC.

I'm starting to feel Prep might actually be the best team in the IAC with St. Stephens right behind them.

The Lil Hoays beat Gonzaga in OT who beat Bullis by a couple of goals. If you were at the game on Saturday night, Gonzaga was the better team and controlled the game tempo from start to finish. Bullis might have some flashy Ty Xanders 4 star recruits but they are not particularly athletic and the team does not play well together.

If the Lil Hoyas take it to Gilman on Thursday, I'm not sure who else could be considered the top of the IAC.

Bullis does not have a single quality win this year and doesn't play a quality team until Landon in a few weeks.

Down year for the IAC. SSSA and Prep lose to Gillman who is middle of the pack in MIAA. Landon got waxed by Haverford who got destroyed by Culver while Culver struggled to get by McDonogh.

Your Bullis Bulldogs are national contenders though right ???

I think the Saints and Hoyas are the team to beat in the IAC

Until the IAC teams start playing each other, it's very tough to predict. These teams are baffling this year.

agree.

Still baffled on Prep's win over Gonzaga or St. Stephens losing to Norfolk Academy.

I think most can agree, Landon and Bullis are not nearly as strong as they were last year.

As we approach April most teams are figuring out the right combinations on the field and with the weather improving and snow days behind us we will certainly see which teams have learned from early season games. Gonzaga seems to have found a good combination and St John's has been winning the close games but I would not count out the IAC schools as they are full of talent. April should be an exciting month of lacrosse.
WCAC has started league play and the IAC starts league play next Friday
