Exactly. Aren’t liberals the ones always complaining that men don’t show their emotions enough? If he hadn’t shown his very real disgust and devastation, they’d all be claiming he was too calm, cold, and disinterested. There is simply nothing that will ever please this crowd.

I was very impressed with his forcefulness. The time for being polite and deferential (which he certainly was in previous hearings) is OVER. I’m glad he’s speaking up for himself.

“Liberals” aren’t “always” anything. The man’s rage scared me.

His “rage”?? So I guess if you were falsely accused of assault, you’d be perfectly polite and calm? PLEASE. He was absolutely permitted to display his utter disgust with this idiocy. Some of the questions he was asked (Senator Whitehouse, I’m looking at you) were beyond what anyone should have to answer - and yet he did. I think he acquitted himself as well as his raw emotions would allow. Which I thought was very well.
Really hope you never have to defend yourself from false accusations. You might actually feel some justified rage.

He was rude to people being polite to him. He showed NO self control. None.

Gosh, I can’t imagine why he’d be upset. Can you?

You can be mad AND respectful. We teach this to our children.

He WAS both mad AND respectful. He had a simmering rage that was apparent (and justified), but he was also coolly polite. He did a good job for someone who has had false accusations lobbed at him (some patently absurd), who has had to protect his children from this, and who has likely had zero sleep for the past ten days. You guys seriously need to give this man a break.

Did you have the volume down and miss the yelling???? No he was not coolly polite. On no planet was that coolly polite.

American Bar Association calls on Judiciary Committee to Halt Kavanaugh Vote until FBI Investigation is Done.

The American Bar Association is calling on the Senate Judiciary Committee to halt the consideration of President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh until an FBI investigation is completed into the sexual assault allegations that have roiled his nomination.

In a strongly worded letter obtained by CNN Thursday, the organization said it is making the extraordinary request "because of the ABA's respect for the rule of law and due process under law," siding with concerns voiced by Senate Democrats since Christine Blasey Ford's decades-old allegations became public.

Is that the American Bar Association that we heard their endorsement of him read in to the minutes of the hearing?

He lied his ass off to Senator Whitehouse.

Senator Whitehouse made a complete a$$ of himself asking Kavanaugh anything at all about stupid inside jokes from his high school yearbook - all of which were completely irrelevant to the allegations. Whitehouse needs to learn how not to showboat. Also, Cory Booker. Idiots.

If they were completely irrelevant, why lie about them? That is what struck me the most. He couldn't even admit to disparaging Renate with an insinuation that she was promiscuous. He flat out lied about what RenateAlumnus meant, and mischaracterized her statement that they never had sex for his own gain, conveniently leaving out the part where she said she was deeply hurt by the implication. THAT says more about his character than anything. I hated his yelling and temper, and knew it didn't play well with most women. But that is a subjective take. The Renate bit was pure bullsh*t on his part. If he can't own up to that and be honest, what else is he lying about?

Yup. They've changed their mind. Although they rated him "highly qualified," they think that the allegations need to be investigated to avoid tainting either the Senate or the Supreme Court. Because, ya know, lawyers typically investigate things.

I had no difficulty believing Dr. Ford after watching her testimony today. I think anyone who watched her testimony and still thinks she’s lying about the assault and is a part of some smear campaign is viewing all of this through a very partisan lens.

Unlike others here, I was not bothered by Judge Kavanaugh’s display of emotion in his opening statement. (The partisanship was a different matter altogether.) It read as authentic to me. I feel terribly for his family in particular, for whom all of this must be just awful.

After watching Kavanaugh’s testimony, I can believe that he fully believes he never sexually assaulted Dr. Ford. What keeps coming to mind for me, though, is the statement he made at the White House when accepting the nomination. He said “No president has ever consulted more widely or talked with more people from more backgrounds to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination.” There’s obviously no way for me to know whether he believes that to be true. But it sounds an awful lot like a statement that the President himself would make (as he’s made many similar ones on many, many different topics). It’s... unverifiable. An exaggeration made to promote the President in the same way he regularly promotes himself. It doesn’t seem like a statement a judge - a trier of fact - would make. And if that was a statement that came from the White House, and Kavanaugh was willing to say it even if he didn’t believe it to be true (or didn’t care if it was true?), and he was willing to say it on that national stage, accepting the nomination to be a Supreme Court Justice... what does that say about his truthfulness? Maybe the better question is, is he willing to fudge the truth a bit sometimes?

I drank in high school and college, and still do (much less now than then!). I was never a ‘blackout drunk’ or anything close to it. Yet, even in recent years when I’ve spent a long evening drinking, there are details - even entire conversations - I haven’t remembered the next day until someone reminds me of them (“oh yeah, I totally forgot we were talking about that last night!”). Not because I’ve “blacked out”, but because perceptions and memories are fuzzy when alcohol is involved.

I’m aware that my experiences with memory loss when drinking may not be universal. But I find it extremely difficult to believe that Judge Kavanaugh always later recalled everything he did when he’d been drinking, as he indicated in his testimony today.

I suppose I’m saying: I don’t think Kavanaugh is lying about the assault, but I do think he may not have been fully truthful in his testimony today, and it’s possible he assaulted Dr. Ford and doesn’t recall it.

And, this could have all been avoided had proper procedure been followed.

Like the Merrick Garland procedure? You all are morally bankrupt. Lindsay Graham's indignant tirade was ludicrous given that he and his colleagues REFUSED to even give
Obama's nominee a hearing. Shameful and ridiculous.

+1

+2 His tirade was ludicrous in light of the BS Republicans have pulled. Besides, anyone who supports Trump in any way never gets to tell anyone else about ethics or lack thereof.

Can you imagine if a woman had come forward with the same exact accusation about Obama? Can you imagine the "breathless" reporting on Fox and other conservative sites. Can you imagine the way Republicans would have acted?

Frankly, I think the vast majority of our elected officials on both sides are smarmy, grandstanding douchbags, and it was on full display today. Disgusting.

Is the ABA non-partisan?

Kind funny since he touted his ABA rating throughout the hearing.

At his point, I think he does remember it, or at least remembers enough to know he did it. Kavanaugh demonstrates both a contempt for women and. An inability to control anger today.

When he asked questions back to the senators rather than answering them, he was not respectful. No way would he have tolerated this behavior in his courtroom. Do you think if Bill Clinton got all indignant during the question, BK would have had the same reaction you have now?

She has a physical injury that made her DH become a house husband since she is incapacitated. It's not that hard to Google it, which is how I verified what she was saying.

And that made her lie? LOL.

He’s a pathological liar and a raging asshole.
He has lied about everything. He knows and Judge knows he is guilty of this and more.

Yeah, I guess they want no part of installing a tainted judge on the bench.
