This is a really dumb take. Yes, Spanberger could veto this bill. But why should she - if it is duly passed by the General Assembly?
Save the vetoes for important things that have no other recourse. In this case, there are some outs. The Board of Supervisors can not hold the referendum. The referendum will fail if it happens.
I am 100% against the casino proposal but this isn’t the Governor’s fault or responsibility. Hopefully Surovell’s constituents will vote him out next time. He seems corrupt and in the pocket of this one developer and seems to hate the rest of Fairfax County. Commercial real estate revenues slightly improved this year - Fairfax is still strong in attracting companies, especially tech companies. We don’t need a tool designed for struggling areas who request casino authority. I believe nearly all Fairfax reps voted against the casino bill but Surovell, a few others in Fairfax, and the rest of the state forced it upon us. This is what we get for dumping all of our legislators with seniority a few years ago and ending up with people like Stella Pekarsky.
