New Additions to Leagues Check Up (ECNL & GA)

First year, they got 1 ECNL and 1 ECRL team.
Go look at how many of their locations are now playing for ECRL.

2 GA teams < 1 ECNL and 4-5 ECRL teams.

It was strictly a money move.

Really? All those teams existed before joining ECNL and RL, just in USYS. Why is it more lucrative? Are they charging more?

Yes, they can charge more and more kids will come to wear the badge...more players, more money. with MI having an entire ECNL-RL conference made for them, it also pulls up players that were maybe on their local USYS teams that didn't want to travel and now they will pay more to be on the higher teams since the travel will not be as bad as if they did it last year and had to leave the state for E64 Midwest. So kids that maybe played in a lower level for Nationals and not on their USYS regional leagues, will now go up to one of their ECNL-RL teams - will get charged more and then will not have to travel as much now because ECNL gave MI a league.

Then they are selling just the brand to charge more but it remains to be seen if they get more kids. Those clubs they got for RL are solid USYS clubs, BUT the ones with E64 teams largely struggled at the higher level. At the same time, a few of the top E64 in the midwest left for MLSN/GA, instead. Seems like USYS is the one that has lost out the most here. Match on, I guess.

Then there's the Wolves starting a girls program in the Hawks backyard. Their top team, beyond local levels, to start with be NAL, tho. Still, it underscores how the Hawks will now face the most competition they've ever had, including the Nationals in ECNL, Jags and other new GA teams in Michigan.

That all said, the funny thing is all these changing/new leagues, at the end of the day, it's still largely the same clubs. That's why it's too bad they can't play in one top league, for one big title, like they do with the u-littles.

Unfortunately I think 2 top youth leagues have to exist to make each other better. If there's only a single top league it will get lazy and not let new clubs in.

The reason MLSN is the top league for boys is MLS is involved with the Acadamies. If this wasn't happening there would be 2 major leagues for boys just like girls is now.

Pretty sure Nationals (like other true top clubs) was and Is There still because they develop players all the way through.

Seems they have a lot of lifers on their teams, per the commitment announcements.

Why did they leave GA?

So they don’t have to develop players anymore. GA forces their clubs to develop and more importantly, do not allow them to poach or recruit.

What is your beef with a club from Michigan 😂. Nationals has always developed kids, it’s the same coaches and director as before, I really don’t think they will change.

Top clubs who do it year in and year out, sorry but there’s a bit more to it than they do no developing and just recruit.

Weird, ignorant narrative. Top clubs in ECNL, GA, etc year after year are there because they have earned it and do more. Simple

The real top programs are league proof. Since you’re using Nationals as an example they survived years surrounded by ECNL clubs, obviously had to be doing something different/good.

Tophat has survivors years surrounded by ECNL clubs, must have been doing something different/good.

Just because it doesnt happen here in our area, doesn’t mean it doesnt happen elsewhere.

Go and take a look at the rosters on Indy Premier United, one of the GAs more successful clubs currently.

About 1/2 the roster is from Indianapolis area where they are… the rest is from other states or 4+ hour drives with players carded to other clubs too.

But that’s developing not poaching for sure.

Sounds pretty smart midwest is pretty spread out and they have learned to recruit the best talent to fll out their roster because they already know they can only develop 10 or so with their population in Indy.

One club in the DMV could do this but they need to be able to stay financially solvent without boys to make it happen. FCV pulled it off for about a decade until the boys money game reality ended things. So in short, never happening here unless NoVa keeps losing ECNL teams then it could happen at VDA and is kind of already happening at Bethesda in MD. Girls drive from all over MD and NoVA sometimes to play with the best

I get what you're going for but until I actually see someone wearing a GA hat it doesn't have the same effect.

If you have to justify happiness, you're not happy. Happiness just is.
