Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 2

Legal maxim. "If the facts are on your side, argue facts. If the law is on your side, argue law. If neither are on your side, pound the table."

Kavanaugh obviously knows when to pound the table.

Exactly. Aren’t liberals the ones always complaining that men don’t show their emotions enough? If he hadn’t shown his very real disgust and devastation, they’d all be claiming he was too calm, cold, and disinterested. There is simply nothing that will ever please this crowd.

I was very impressed with his forcefulness. The time for being polite and deferential (which he certainly was in previous hearings) is OVER. I’m glad he’s speaking up for himself.

“Liberals” aren’t “always” anything. The man’s rage scared me.

His “rage”?? So I guess if you were falsely accused of assault, you’d be perfectly polite and calm? PLEASE. He was absolutely permitted to display his utter disgust with this idiocy. Some of the questions he was asked (Senator Whitehouse, I’m looking at you) were beyond what anyone should have to answer - and yet he did. I think he acquitted himself as well as his raw emotions would allow. Which I thought was very well.
Really hope you never have to defend yourself from false accusations. You might actually feel some justified rage.

He was just pathetic. His approach was not a smart one at all.

And the constant lies! He just can't help himself. It is an illness. So stupid to do that under oath.

Looks like Mark Judge's book is gives some clues to the timing. Mark talks about his job at Safeway where he worked for a few weeks just before football camp to help pay for the camp. Kavanaugh's calendar shows when the football camp was and also refers to a gathering on July 1, where Judge was present.

July 1: “Go to Timmy’s for Skis w/ Judge, Tom, PJ, Bernie, Squi.” = likely the night in question with Dr. Ford

Safeway Encounter: Just before the football camp, which would have likely been between August 1 and August 21. The 6-8 weeks after the encounter that Dr. Ford referenced in her testimony would have fallen right around that window of time.

Football Camp: Starts August 22

Two questions. Dr. Ford talked today about wishing she knew when Mark Judge worked at the Safeway because it would help her determine when the assault had happened, because she remembered she had run into him while he was working there about six to eight weeks later. I'm kind of surprised that no one involved with helping her had thought to pick up Judge's book and read it, since he apparently wrote about that job and when he was working there. It would have been helpful for her to have had this information and it appears it was easily available.

Also, did we know before today that Dr. Ford and "Squi" had dated, or what she said they called at the time "went out," in the months before the incident and that he was the person who had introduced her to Kavanaugh and Judge? She does not list him as someone present at the gathering but Kavanaugh's calendar page does list him as being at the party at Timmy's. Might make sense if they'd been dating that she would be at a get together and meet his other friends.

He lied his ass off to Senator Whitehouse.

Many questions unanswered and he filibustered every question. It was frustrating to watch.

If a man is blackout drunk, it would only be an attempted rape because he couldn’t get it up.

The calendar says Columbia on the 7th! That could be the day that hung out there. It says Congressional the next day.

He lied so many times today. Absolutely shameful that this is a supreme court justice.

I believe fully and wholeheartedly she is lying.

Well she did lie about flying. Supposedly she didn’t want to come to DC because she would have to fly. Turns out she flew to DC in the summer to see family in Rehoboth and has flown to many destinations around the world

I completely believe the assault occurred, but she has no evidence of who did it. The fact that she fell apart for the remainder of high school and two years of college never raised her parents concern or that of a Holton-Arms Arms counselor. People of her SES would have had her at a shrink.

I know - why??

Crickets. She's just fine about flying all over the world. She lied again and again. Sad.

And laughed while she said it. That was weird as hell.

Her lawyers hid many things from her. They didn't tell her that they had used her inability to fly as a stalling tactic. They didn't tell her that Grassley had offered that the committee come and interview her in CA.

I agree. Why do you think?

Don't think he said "Squi" was Ford's bf--he said it was a friend of his. But if it is him (the BF)--christ on a cracker! Curiouser and curiouser...

When these allegations first arose I didn’t take them too seriously, I wasn’t that conceded. From what we knew about BK at the time, it did seem unlike his personality. Uncharacteristic of him like all of his peers have stood behind him and said.

But his demeanor today surprised me. It’s not that far fetch that someone with his temperament would commit the crimes Dr. Ford and others accused him of. That doesn’t make him guilty, but today didn’t help him. He looked much more innocent before he was constantly interrupting senators and inappropriately asking them questions.

That’s bad forum on either side of the aisle.

They were trying to protect her. They were doing their jobs. She is way too nice and they would have started on their "it was some other guy" defense a long time ago. They were never going to call a FBI investigation because they knew a lot of crap would have come up.

What I want to know is if they think they can really get away with just not having hearings for the other victims who came forward. It is ridiculous. We aren't stupid, they need to stop acting like we are idiots.

She may have not been clear on whether or not or how the committee would have orchestrated such a meeting in Cali--her lawyer was correct to tell her to disregard it until she got it writing--I would.
