This is such a copout pick. She is a Governor like so many others such as Raimondo and Lujan Grisham. What makes her special?

Um, she has handled COVID better than Cuomo....

She's from a must win state that borders another must win state.

Well, it was all over twitter earlier this spring/summer.

He asked to get his boat in the water (against Whitmer's own policy.) Tried to pull rank to get it done.

No, he made a dumb dentist joke. Puh-leeze.

Do you remember Dan Quayle....anything can derail a candidate and a DH pulling rank because his wife is Governor shows very bad judgment. There are people without jobs and dying. Very poor choice of words.

This simply isn’t true. Besides, Biden is not behind in the polls of these states.

Is there actually any proof that the VP being from a particular state helps deliver that state? I’ve never understood this.

Nothing is locked down. Polls will tighten, they always do.

What isn’t true? I think geography is not your friend.

Tammy Duckworth lives in NOVA.

Reeeeeeach! He didn’t pull rank. And your imputing her husband’s joke to her is pretty sexist. Yikes.

Remember he's in a major resort area. The MI was Whitmer, Chicago Duckworth, BWI probably Harris or Rice, but the rest might not correlate. And anyone (Harris, Rice, Bass, Warren etc.) can be driven from DC as well.

That gets him the backing of a solid popular Midwest VP candidate with domestic and executive skills, plus a net-positive (other than the Conservative gun rights folks who protested in Michigan, who are unlikely to vote for Biden under any circumstances) pandemic response. He can task her from day 1 with taking over the Pandemic response and getting the US moving back in the right direction with a coordinated national response.

Plus then he gets Rice's extensive foreign policy and foreign relations experience. Between them, Biden and Rice have good relations with many of the foreign heads of state and can start rebuilding the US international reputation and cauterize the horrifically hemorrhaging US foreign policy and start to heal the dying relations between the US and long-time allies.

I agree with this. And the fact that she knows all the governors and can effectively work with them is a huge plus at this time.

Rumor is Harris’ team has been dropping cookie crumbs on all the opposition to reporters.

David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Barack Obama, tweeted on Friday, “I can’t remember any VP selection process where so much oppo research has been dumped. If I were @JoeBiden, looking for a good and loyal partner, that should be a source of concern.”

He's implying what many suspect, that Harris' team is doing the oppo dump. If you're trying to persuade Biden you're trustworthy, does not seem like a good strategy. My guess is there's not much to dump on Whitmer, but I guess we'll find out over the next few days if that's true.

I think his own personal first choice would be Rice - they know each other really well from the Obama admin, and all the articles about his VP search say he wants a partner and someone he already knows and trusts. But, she does carry a lot of Obama administration baggage and I’m sure Republicans would love to throw out the “Clinton Obama Benghazi emails rarrrrrr” red meat to the base.

+1 I think his team will talk him out of Rice but yes I agree.
