This is such a copout pick. She is a Governor like so many others such as Raimondo and Lujan Grisham. What makes her special?

Um, she has handled COVID better than Cuomo....

IF Whitmer is the pick, he decided he was willing to risk dampening POC enthusiasm and prioritize swing voters.

Not really. POC do not care. They want to win.

Rice is a terrible pick. It already looks like Obama’s third term. Dems need to move beyond just Obama nostalgia. And I would love someone with actual governing experience.

This, this, this. Dems have to move forward. Biden needs to be ushering in the next generation of Dem leadership, not turning back the clock.

So... Biden is making smart and strategic decisions. That’s great.

And if he wanted to prioritize swing voters and POC he could with a pick of Demings. Florida is far more critical of a swing state than Michigan.

Demings is much less experienced than Whitmer. He needs to balance electability and governing concerns. Whitmer is not the best pick in either category imo but she balances both categories effectively whereas most other candidates are strong in one or the other.

Whitmer is a first term governor who has served half her term. Before that she was in politics in Michigan (not exactly the largest state). Id not call her far more experienced than Demings. And she is far less experienced than several other candidates.

Yes, it’s in the top ten by population - what are you smoking?

Seems like the 1-2 punch would be to announce Whitmer as VP and Rice as Sec-State together.

That gets him the backing of a solid popular Midwest VP candidate with domestic and executive skills, plus a net-positive (other than the Conservative gun rights folks who protested in Michigan, who are unlikely to vote for Biden under any circumstances) pandemic response. He can task her from day 1 with taking over the Pandemic response and getting the US moving back in the right direction with a coordinated national response.

Plus then he gets Rice's extensive foreign policy and foreign relations experience. Between them, Biden and Rice have good relations with many of the foreign heads of state and can start rebuilding the US international reputation and cauterize the horrifically hemorrhaging US foreign policy and start to heal the dying relations between the US and long-time allies.

I hope someone is closely vetting the five teenagers she is a parent to, Palin’s kids were a disaster.

You are a nutter. Her Republican father helped her get elected as a Democrat how? She was estranged from him for several years.

Look, he helped her pay for her education undoubtedly. While ideologically they are clearly not the same, they have similar profiles, first time Governors, little to no foreign policy experience, not vetted on a national stage, have teens and their husbands have made some questionable choices. They also appeal to the same dynamic or are intended to - suburban women.

So now your parents helping you with educational expenses is disqualifying? Come on.

Whitmer was in the state senate for 9 years. She gave the Democratic response to the State of the union this year.

Her husband is a dentist. What has he done? It sure isn't all over Google.

Well, it was all over twitter earlier this spring/summer.

He asked to get his boat in the water (against Whitmer's own policy.) Tried to pull rank to get it done.

A simple google: Whitmer's husband came up with a number of articles about the boat incident.

Whitmer did not allow landscaper work nor garden centers to be open in Michigan. No common sense. I had 5 mows done and the crew/staff wore masks plus went to a garden center once and the Home Depot once while all that was closed in Michigan.

I like Corey Booker. I don't care if he isn't a woman. I don't care about his ethnicity. Nice he's Black but that's secondary to him as a person. Clinton made a dumb choice in Tim Kaine. I'd have preferred Booker or if she went VA, Warner.

Whitmer has been praised for her pandemic response. I realize many misogynistic red necks were bothered by having some bitch tell them what to do, but most intelligent humans agree she did well.

Love this!

Biden interrupts his bike ride to joke to Fox News’s Peter (speaking of nepotism) Doocy that he’s picked his VP.

My guess is that he really wants to do Whitmer or Rice and doesn't want to do Harris. Demmings was a gimmick pick and he doesnt think Bass gas the gravitas.
