Biden's VP?

I think his own personal first choice would be Rice - they know each other really well from the Obama admin, and all the articles about his VP search say he wants a partner and someone he already knows and trusts. But, she does carry a lot of Obama administration baggage and I’m sure Republicans would love to throw out the “Clinton Obama Benghazi emails rarrrrrr” red meat to the base.

Demmings may be a gimmick to you - for me, as a public interest lobbyist, I have been nothing but impressed by her. Wish even 50% of Dem caucus was as well-prepared as she is for hearings and floor time. She is fluent with the materials and subject matter, clearly reading memos and listening to her staff (who also appear top notch). Perhaps the law enforcement background was seen as a detraction - that said, really like her and hope she has a long future in national Dem politics.

Rumor is Harris’ team has been dropping cookie crumbs on all the opposition to reporters.

David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Barack Obama, tweeted on Friday, “I can’t remember any VP selection process where so much oppo research has been dumped. If I were @JoeBiden, looking for a good and loyal partner, that should be a source of concern.”

He's implying what many suspect, that Harris' team is doing the oppo dump. If you're trying to persuade Biden you're trustworthy, does not seem like a good strategy. My guess is there's not much to dump on Whitmer, but I guess we'll find out over the next few days if that's true.

I find it hard to believe Jill and Valerie would be on board with Harris, which sinks her regardless.

I don't think she's a gimmick, clear she's smart and talented. Just not very experienced yet.

Not surprised. Dislike Harris more and more from her antics. It is actually making me question her judgment and character as someone that could be trusted with an AG role or SC. She’s thirsty and vindictive. And enjoys it. My intuition has alarms going off about her all the time.

IF Whitmer is the pick, he decided he was willing to risk dampening POC enthusiasm and prioritize swing voters.

So... Biden is making smart and strategic decisions. That’s great.

Zero wrong with female ambition, but how that ambition is handled matters. You can pursue your ambitions while staying trustworthy and above board. I actually think most of the final prospects fit into this category, with only one or two notable exceptions.

Whitmer did not allow landscaper work nor garden centers to be open in Michigan. No common sense. I had 5 mows done and the crew/staff wore masks plus went to a garden center once and the Home Depot once while all that was closed in Michigan.

I like Corey Booker. I don't care if he isn't a woman. I don't care about his ethnicity. Nice he's Black but that's secondary to him as a person. Clinton made a dumb choice in Tim Kaine. I'd have preferred Booker or if she went VA, Warner.

Whitmer has been praised for her pandemic response. I realize many misogynistic red necks were bothered by having some bitch tell them what to do, but most intelligent humans agree she did well.

I'm not a misogynist nor a redneck and do not agree with Whitmer closing down landscapers and garden centers. I was wondering what I'd do if in Michigan.

That was part of a strict shut-down that was needed. Landscapers shop in garden centers, too much interaction and mixing. People were supposed to stay home. I have no problem with it.

+1 I think his team will talk him out of Rice but yes I agree.

You know, I was in the anyone-but-Rice camp but I've come around based on her media appearances. She's much more down to earth and funny than I expected. I don't know whether her baggage is surmountable in the end, but I personally would be happy with her as the pick. Below is a recent Daily Show appearance.

You wouldn’t have anything because it was still WINTER IN MICHIGAN. Honestly people.

The quoted in this thread concerns about her attitude being such that it changes allies into enemies gives me pause, but I just don’t want to hear about GD Benghazi for the rest of the election cycle and the next four years. I’m just done with it and don’t feel like baiting the crazies into it. I know they’ll find something to complain about about every single one of the VP candidates (“She believed her oral family history!!” “She closed down everything including parts of the garden centers and I was mildly inconvenienced!!” “She’s ambitious!!”), but they’ve honed that talking point. Every GOP zombie will rise for that one.
