Very well said. Tremendous season with more exciting games to come! |
Agree with all this with the sole exception of that last sentence. Shutting down valid critique is silly, counterproductive and basically impossible. Complain away, you’re not wrong to note that level of play is down WHILE the athleticism and scrap is and remains excellent. So start another forum maybe on how to raise the level of play for VA public school lax, because the answers are pretty straightforward (public supported rec leagues for middle school( but the execution is wanting. Meanwhile, athleticism and scrap deserve to be celebrated. |
Averaging….over their last two… yeah that’s how averages work. Take two games and throw out the rest |
If you could point to the valid critique that was being shut down, we'd all appreciate it. Thanks. |
Yes, that is how averages work. Take the sum of the values of a data set divided by the number. They played two good teams recently and scored five and three goals. That adds up to eight divided by two and averages out to four. Against good defenses they do not score a lot of goals. 7 against Cosby, 4 against Broadneck. Why would I care how many they scored against a terrible defense like Woodson or West Springfield? |
“We’d”? Count me out of the “we” that thinks shooting from 20 yards out with no backup is good offense. Or the “we” that thinks that over half the teams in 4/5/6 playoffs getting shellacked by mostly mediocre privates (STAB doesn’t count at this point since they recruit across North America, but Woodberry or Norfolk aren’t bad barometers) is objectively a sign of quality decline. It’s logical, not personal, so I’ll just agree with the guy who suggests another forum and letting the kids and their families enjoy their well-deserved moment. |
Dude you really went 0 for. Stay away from DraftKings. |
While I agree with play being down some, you cannot only point that as a reason for commitments in the area being down.
Covid did a number on all levels of the sport- kids getting to play for 6 (or more years) for a limited number of spots on a college team. Additionally, it killing off a group a youngsters starting out- all levels The x-fer portal is pushing boarder line D1 to D2/3. NIL and roster sizes. The growth of the game in other areas of the country that was not there 10 years ago. Every prime athlete in Atlanta, Florida and Denver can take a spot from NoVa, Md and NY. The "business" of private school lacrosse. Its about money! Shifting population centers and the cost of housing and building of new schools spreading out talent. Just to name a few....... |
So you don't have an example, either? |
They crushed expectations this year after graduating stud goalie but keep sippin' the Haterade. Might finally be West Po's year! Good for them. |
Ok, smart guy, average the scores of their three games against West Po this season if you want to pick and choose games to average |
VHSL lacrosse is certainly ugly. You work with what you have, and most kids haven't gotten into the sport at a young age so the "talent pool" is very small. The ones who have played since elementary school shine.
One of the problems I have identified, and has been discussed throughout the years is the holding hostage of the game and its growth by father and parental coaching. It is pretty obvious that these parents who get involved in youth league lacrosse, take over entire organizations and manipulate things for them and their boys. They inevitably then leave the organization upside down and destroyed for those that come behind them because they have intimated other parents and volunteers. They are not dedicated to the sport and their response to any objection is "you want to do it better , then you do it" and they masquerade as if they are giving the greatest sacrifice in the world. The sport in our area has been decimated by these ego maniacs and most of the time their kids are just not the best but they get all the playing time and are put in the best positions for success. The kids know it and are embarrassed. It's a shame. Then end of day we wonder why the other kids and families get disheartened and leave the sport all together to play baseball and soccer. NVYLL is a train wreck currently. NoVA needs to do better. Will never be LI or Baltimore because just not enough folks care to change things. |
Sincerely interested in this as have some (hopefully up-and-coming lacrosse playing) young kids. What are the issues with NVYLL? which orgs do it well vs. not do it well (we may have choice in which org we decided to start with)? I grew up in MD so unfamiliar with the NOVA lacrosse scene. Thanks in advance for sharing the experiences. |
I think it’ll be 5-3 Cosby. |
No thanks. I wanted to look at their most recent games and that is what I did. Sorry if you don't like it. |
