Objectively speaking, as many have stated the overall level of individual talent in the area has declined in recent years. You can choose to agree or disagree, but the numbers of commits and the strength of program they're committing to support that reality. Of course, like everything in sports, it’s cyclical. Talent ebbs and flows for many reasons and it’s only a matter of time before the next wave rises. That said, this has been one of the most competitive seasons I can remember in a long time. While the skill level may not always have been elite, leading to some scrappy, even ugly stretches of play but the effort, intensity, and heart have been second to none. Every week brought surprises. Upsets became the norm, not the exception. New programs stepped into the spotlight, and parity made the season all the more exciting. I would love to see West Po and Indy break through and hoist a trophy this year. It won't come easy though Freeman brings a lot of experience in championship games and brings plenty of talent to the table. West Po will also have another potential war of a game on their hands. No easy outs from here. Just great matchups and the kind of drama we live for. Stop complaining and enjoy it!
Agree with all this with the sole exception of that last sentence. Shutting down valid critique is silly, counterproductive and basically impossible. Complain away, you’re not wrong to note that level of play is down WHILE the athleticism and scrap is and remains excellent. So start another forum maybe on how to raise the level of play for VA public school lax, because the answers are pretty straightforward (public supported rec leagues for middle school( but the execution is wanting. Meanwhile, athleticism and scrap deserve to be celebrated.
If you could point to the valid critique that was being shut down, we'd all appreciate it. Thanks.
“We’d”? Count me out of the “we” that thinks shooting from 20 yards out with no backup is good offense. Or the “we” that thinks that over half the teams in 4/5/6 playoffs getting shellacked by mostly mediocre privates (STAB doesn’t count at this point since they recruit across North America, but Woodberry or Norfolk aren’t bad barometers) is objectively a sign of quality decline. It’s logical, not personal, so I’ll just agree with the guy who suggests another forum and letting the kids and their families enjoy their well-deserved moment.
