Exactly. And even without the other groups around them, they should be behaving respectfully at a National Memorial for a slain American president who presided over one of the most traumatic events our nation as experienced and where MLK Jr gave one of the most important speeches in our history.

That's what it looks like to me. The kids were tourists at the memorial and the group of African Israelites was initially just another tourist attraction. They were observing it as some sort of spectacle (which it probably was to them). But then they went from observing to heckling and, in effect, became counter-protesters. Things then escalated.

And I'm still not understanding why their chaperones did not step in to reign in their behavior. I saw at least one adult with them in a video.

Everyone- the natives, the black Israelites, the boys, were yelling, chanting, etc, but the boys were the vile ones?

They did eventually, but they should have done so much earlier. Of course, hindsight is 20/20. But, it looks like the chaperones were willing to tolerate the kids heckling the African Israelites -- which is in my mind a bigger issue then whether the smirking kid should have moved out of the way. If you are in town for a protest, I would think you would want to be respectful of other protests just as you would want others to be respectful of yours.

Even Jeff can admit the bias that was shown the past 24 hours with this video from the media.

This 9 minute video shows the truth.

The group harrassing people was a group of black men preaching about the sin of homosexuality and the white catholic boys did not harass them in any way.

That video does not do what you think it does.

Certainly doesn’t make those students look any more altar-boy-like.

What were they doing wrong? Cheering, dancing, laughing, etc? They were supposed to go to DC and stand silently like altar boys and move quickly out of the way of anyone who approached them?

I am not even Catholic and I see people here attacking these kids just because they are Catholic. They did nothing wrong at all.

I am Catholic. No one is attacking them because they are Catholic. They are attacking them because they appear to have done something that is vile.

Which would be attend a rally, and when approached by a man, not fall silent and move?

I wonder if a Catholic priest or Protestant minister approached a group from the women’s march they would all part way to allow him through as he preached?

Liberals are truly vile people, and the ultimate hypocrites.

This kid is vile and I am ashamed he purports to be Catholic. It brings shame on all of us. What was he even doing there? Why would he attend such a thing? Why is he against this cause?

There was more than one group protesting or demonstrating that day. Just because you show up for your own cause doesn’t mean to see against another cause. The boys had every right to be there and support their cause.

Their cause against indigenous people? What kind of cause is that?

I’ve chaperoned groups of high school students to the Holocaust Museum and they still need to be reminded not to talk loud and laugh - and this is inside the museum. These kids were outside the Memorial on the steps when another group walked into the area where they were congregating. Phillips was apparently looking for more publicity and certain members of the media - who hate Trump, MAGA, pro-lifers, and white conservatives generally - were more than happy to oblige.

Fake news. The native Americans were harassing the kids, not the other way around:

Here is a participant's description of the event:

which appears to be directly backed by video evidence:

Let's face what this is about. A bunch of teenage boys go to DC for a march. Many teenagers go on things like this because it's fun to be with your friends at that age and you do what your friends are doing (regardless of whether you believe in whatever cause the adults have used to rationalize the trip).

A man who is dead serious about his cause is there as well. He has been through a lot in life . . . Vietnam vet who comes to sing at Arlington cemetery on a regular basis. He knows many who have died from his culture. He is proud of his tribe. Rightly.

The boys are there to whoop it up and have fun. Life has not become serious for them (yet). The man is there on his own personal spiritual mission.

Blaming people for what happened is ridiculous really. The boys need to learn to be respectful. The ground there does not belong to them alone and the respectful thing to do would be to move out of the way and let the man pass, especially the boy who stood in front of him (there was room for him to move). The young boy clearly could have moved out of the way (there was plenty of room). There is also a thing called respect for elders. The young are more physically able to move faster. That was an old man. He was clearly marching toward the memorial. Come on. The younger people need to learn how to behave in public spaces like this.

All that said, the kids are kids and haven't learned this yet. I hope they learned something. They should receive some kind of punishment, but not expulsion. Kids do stupid things. The people defending the kids somehow don't want to admit that kids do stupid things. Why?

Well said.

You are leaving out the fact that the kids gathered around and started heckling the African Israelites. When you chaperone kids, do you allow them to start taunting other groups?

You think there is such a thing as “African Israelites”?

Isn't that kid almost 18? From what I understand he'll be able to vote next year. Sorry, he should know better at 18.

Tamir Rice was shot at 12 because he had a toy gun.

DP - Kids were being kids and never once got into the faces of the Shar. I've been to many protests and this one was tame on both sides until the native american elder decided to insert himself into the situation. Then the uppity MAGA white racists kids were respectful.
