Will Trump drop Vance?

It would open Trump to criticism that he has poor judgment, flip flops and has bad decision making and possibly cognitive decline.

He can't drop Vance. He has to stick with him or risk looking less like a leader.

Of course he can drop him. No one gets much time working with trump. He discards every single one sooner or later. Vance might be sooner. He can go hang with Mike pence.

There isn't a party mechanism to change at this point. But it would be an authoritarian flex.

How soon will ballots be printed? When does it have to be locked in to appear on state ballots? I imagine the decision needs to be made really soon.

Ohio deadline is 8/7 or 8/8. Which is Dems will official nominate Harris virtually starting 8/1– it’s before the convention. (The same plan was in place to nominate Biden). So, your VP pick will be here with a week.

Yeah it would be a very bitter pill for Trump to swallow. He loves Vance. Vance was Trump's special, personal pick (unlike Pence) so he'll take it personally if he's made to dump him. Plus he'll have lost the best commercial for the VP, the RP convention. And they won't be able to use any clips from their convention when everyone is endorsing Trump/Vance.

Plus the lost money for the roll out, merch, backers, fundraisers, etc.

Where did he make these remarks? Shame them for sharing their platform with a misogynist.

I'm not defending his stance, which is wrong.

But he is saying that all children should have a vote. (Presumably unborn fetuses too I guess?)

Since kids under 18 are still minors, their parents would vote for them.

So have 6 kids, parents get 6 votes. Now, which parent? Mom or dad? I guess he'd say dad...

What about kids of illegal immigrants, but kids who were born in the US? I wonder if he has really thought this through because he'd just magnify the immigrant/minority vote, wouldn't he?

This is really about boosting the voting power of Evangelical, Catholic, and Mormon families, who are the base of the GOP. There's nothing pro-life/natal about this. It is simply a ploy to increase their power vis-a-vis their dwindling support in the population.

Catholics lean Democrat (44% v. 37% GOP).

+1. This always surprised me, because abortion. But Catholicism also has a very strong social justice element. And a lot of Catholics are lapsed, but if you grow up Catholic you often still ID as one even if you never go to church (raises hand). And American Catholics have spent decades being “cafeteria Catholics” and ignoring inconvenient rules like no birth control. I left the church because I think that’s ridiculous. If you believe, you follow Gods word. Not the parts you like. And there were parts I was not going to follow. But most practicing Catholics just deal with contradiction (ahhmmm hypocrisy).

Even back when I was growing up (1980s) our church had two families with 6+ kids. All the rest were 1-3. 95% have the same 2.1 kids as the rest of America. Very different from evangelical families who kept popping them out (grew up in the Bible Belt).

I'm no fan of Vance or Trump, but isn't Vance's position that we should abandon Ukraine and just let Russia have it? I thought he was an isolationist who will just rollover for Putin and any other "strongman" dictator.

Honestly, I don't know WHAT their position is. What does Trump want to see happen with Russia and Ukraine?

Probably not before the Democratic convention?

Incorrect. Ohios deadline is 8/7. Dems are officially nominating via a virtual convention starting 8/1 to ensure Ohio ballot access. It will be a done deal by the Convention, which will still be the same rah, rah, go us speeches.

The incumbent party goes second for conventions and this is always an issue, because it’s also always an Olympic year (okay not 2020) and no one want to program there free week of TV and headlines against the Olympics. Usually Ohio waives its deadline. This year, they sent out a letter saying they would not. Then said, okay we will. But exactly no one trusts them. Hello virtual vote for the nominee.

Vance is very clearly an Ivy League atheist.

There is a large variety in Catholic parishes. Some are quite progressive and some are super conservative. You need to visit different parishes to see this. I did not understand it until I grew up and moved around to different Catholic churches.

LOL he looks so stupid for this hire. If he dumps him right after the convention, I will die laughing. It will make everyone mock Trump.

Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't realized that.

Abandon Ukraine Day 1. Let Russia have them. Not our problem. Pull out of NATO so Finland and Poland aren’t our problem either. Or the countries after that.

If you get the feeling you’ve seen this playbook before, it’s because you have. Decision not to stop Hitler early may be the biggest foreign policy mistake of the 20th century. Although Vietnam ain’t great.

You say "not our problem"

I wonder if you thought about how much of our economy is based on trade with Europe and what the impact would be if that were to stop because of war?

Yep. And right now, we have no boots on the ground and are dumping all of our 1990s technology on Ukraine while learning what works and what doesn't. This isn't Vietnam.

Whatever Putin wants.

You should have been able to tell by the second paragraph that the PP does not agree with the "not our problem" attitude.
