Charles Allen faces recall effort

Let’s watch how Allen votes on today’s crime bill before the council.

I’d be shocked if he votes in favor.

A person who lives on Capitol Hill has formed a committee "among a group of friends" and "plans to begin fundraising soon" to collect (according to them) 7,500 signatures.

"The other side: Allen points out that he won re-election unopposed in 2022 with over 90% of the vote."

Pleased to be in the 10%.

Technically you're in the majority, since Allen only got ~14k votes in a ward with over 100k residents. But his supporters will keep throwing that 90% number around like it means something.

He won it against Anon which is what I wrote in. Oh well done

He’s a slimy slug interested in self preservation so he’ll vote yes unless he refers it for amendment
He won’t dare vote no

The language some of you use on here reflects more on you than the people you are discussing.

Think of all the good that this money could do instead of being wasted on a frivolous recall that the majority of the people do not support.

I calculated it could buy 6 copies of How to be Antiracist by Ibrahim X Kendi and 3 of Good Night Moon board books you go through Charles Allen’s wife’s non-profit. Cause she gotta get paid first. Then there’s the PR and photo op

I’m being facetious. $60,000 would buy you 500 board books not just 9 through her non-profit at about $120 per book. That’s calculated right off their website. Also to note, they get the said books for free, then pay themselves massive salaries and voila! Thank you, taxpayer and Charles Allen.

I hope so. It’s a reference to Jimmy Kimmel’s famous description of Ted Kruz how he has to salt his driveway to prevent Ted from slithering up it. I think it fits. Allen is the same class of self-serving ideologue on the other side of the spectrum. I too am very afraid of Allen slithering up my driveway.

We need Allen. Cars won’t jack themselves and who’s going to brick the gentrifies in the head if he’s not around?

They are currently in the process of watering it down significantly with amendments so my guess is he gets it to a point where it’s basically meaningless and then votes in favor of it.

I guess we’ll find out how many people support it.

Bring on the petitions.

The financial report is out:

Many republican staffers and lobbyists, including an entire republican consulting firm (814 consulting)! https://efiling.ocf.dc.gov/FinancialReports/EntireReport/32594/RECCC6246673_2024%20January%2031st%20report_%20Original

I remain skeptical that there is any chance of this successfully happening.

Gasp! Republicans don’t like crime in their neighborhoods either!

The truth is that the vast majority of donors on that list are Democrats. And the vast majority are DC residents. It’s an incredibly impressive group. My name will be on the next report.

It is a very impressive group of Republican donors. I don't know how it will play running their preferences against Allen if they get to the recall election.

Many Dems, many larger donations and many from Ward 6.

All I can say is that as an Allen supporter, I feel much better after seeing this donor list.

This list is full of republican staffers for insurrectionist Congresspersons using their DC address and commit voter fraud to vote elsewhere. It’s a disgusting list of the worst type of DC resident. I hope you all love being associated with those people.
