Given that white nationalists have spent years infiltrating police forces, it seems like stemming that tide is a good idea. Do you want white supremacy in policing? |
You know who else has been at it since 2014, and receives a fraction of Allen's criticism despite having much more power? |

I agree that she's better at performance politics than Allen and that's what's saving her. In practice she's destroying our schools which I'm worried will have many more long term consequences |
How is Bowser ruining school? Genuine question. I think she's an empty suit for the most part but I voted for her over White because unlike White she wasn't trying to close schools again over a Covid surge, and she was one of the few politicians who seemed to understand that getting schools back in person needed to be a priority during the pandemic. I think she's been weak in crime but I'm okay with her on education. |
She’s not. It’s just a common deflection talking point |
That's a fair question and one that probably looks different on the outside than the inside. Some examples of how schools have been impacted by her. Refusal to come to the table to meet with teachers about their expired contract. The last time DCPS responded to WTU, they offered 5AM as the only time they would be able to meet. When WTU responded to accept those terms as to ensure there would be no excuses, their response was ignored. This has obvious impacts on educator morale, but beyond that it causes issues with budgeting because Central Office doesn't know how to assign future financial value to essential personnel. From what I've been told there are going to be massive cuts to school budgets this year, causing even more overcrowding. Poor oversight of school buildings. Buildings often find themselves without functioning heat or A/C during extreme temperatures. My own classroom hits about 95 degrees due to greenhouse effects and lack of air conditioning. Many schools complain of broken bathrooms and vermin infestation, leaks, mold, etc. Poor oversight of federal funds. When we received Covid money for high impact tutoring as a district, schools were not given any additional staffing or resources to actually facilitate this work. I was the appointed person at my school and all I could do was offer admin premium (at that time $40/hr) to our aftercare team to watch kids fill out packets. That was never going to close the gap. These are a few off the top of my head that I hope give some clarity. I can try and share more if you would like. |
There is really not much that one council member can do in regards to education. I believe I have previously shared wardspecific things he has done to support our school. Education in DC is under the Mayor. |
Only so much Mayor can do. That’s Kihn you’re complaining about |
Allen is a total patsy-pansy on crime. Time to go! |
The Mayor appointed Chancellor Ferebee who is the lead of contract negotiations. The Mayor appointed Kihn, who is the deputy mayor of education. These are all under the executive branch led by Mayor Bowser. I think it is fair to assign responsibility to her for the people she appoints. |
Tell me you don’t live in DC without telling me… |
A crazy person has taken over this thread and I don't have the patience to continue dealing with them. I want to watch football. So, I am locking the thread. |
