Just saw this. Allen’s tone deaf treatment of crime has been driving me crazy the last couple years. There is zero sense of urgency. It’s like he thinks he’s completely invincible.

Allen supporters vow to murder and carjack twice as hard this year in retaliation. |
Someone and their friends got together and they were close enough to Axios to leak this non story. Good luck though! |
Hopefully they can raise some money and get some campaign workers to help collect signatures. Charles Allen has been a disaster for DC and Ward 6. |
Hi, guys! |
Summary of scoop:
A person who lives on Capitol Hill has formed a committee "among a group of friends" and "plans to begin fundraising soon" to collect (according to them) 7,500 signatures. "The other side: Allen points out that he won re-election unopposed in 2022 with over 90% of the vote." |
I don’t know that the prior election is a good indication of how a recall election would go. Allen rode the wave of 2020/anti-Trump/BLM progressivism into an unopposed primary. At that point, I think candidates didn’t run against him because being to the right of Allen (even if still a democrat) made you “racist.” In 2024, people are very worried about out of control crime and Allen has arguably made the crime situation worse. A “tough on crime” challenger could definitely get a lot of support in Ward 6 at this moment. |
+1, crime is worse now. I think there was goodwill for Allen when he testified in Congress, because the GOP congressmen were so obviously trying to use DC to score BS political points. But when you see businesses closing down because of repeated break ins and lack of action from the city, and Allen silent on it over and over, and when you see citizen groups and business orgs working to do something about crime where Allen has done nothing for people in the Ward (as you now see on H Street with people working directly with police to get foot patrols and increased enforcement and Allen not even being involved in the process, which I find mildly shocking when I compare to how other Ward reps have handled crime issues). Allen ran unopposed in the last cycle and we still don't have a good candidate emerging but I am extremely open minded on this issue at this point. And I've spoken to enough neighbors who are absolutely fed up with he crime and with the lack of action from many officials (Allen, Bowser, the police chief) and ready to simply clean house. |
This is encouraging. What about Ward 3? |
The redistricting shifted a likely and strong candidate out of W6 that cycle, just like Silverman and others engaged in chicanery in W3 to block Goulet and bring in Frumin.
The system will misuse power to protect its own. Enough. Electable people besides Lisa Gore need to step up. soon. The city of Washington, D.C., is holding general elections for city council on November 5, 2024. A primary is scheduled for June 4, 2024. The filing deadline for the primary is March 6, 2024, and the filing deadline for the general election is August 7, 2024. |
I'll contribute! Just reading Charles Allen's newsletter where he tries to dance around the crime problem makes my blood boil. I voted for him but I would vote to recall him. I won't vote for him again even if he's running unopposed. |
Oh no, AI-generated graphics have become involved! Charles Allen is as good as done for. |
