What in the world makes you think Landon doesn't have female administrators and board members? The board is half women, and the school is comprised of 42% women teachers. 3 out of 29 is half? -------------------------------------- you dont know what you are talking about. It's not even close to 3 out of 29. 57% of the administration is female and 2 out of 7 teachers are female |
The fact that you are trying to make excuses for these kids speaks volumes. "Really good kids" don't "make a series of mistakes" and set up a game to award points on how many underage girls they can bed. And since you know sooooo much about this story, feel free to enlighten us, the NY Times, the Washington Post, WUSA, the Washington Times, etc. about what REALLY happened--because all of these news outlets have covered the story.

You would be a bit more convincing if you acknowledged that the boys made a huge, colossal, boneheaded mistake. I know some of them as well (through my DS) and have heard different versions of the story, but it is clear that they did rate and "draft" girls based on their likelihood of being sexually active. Less clear that they had any plans to be active with the girls, as opposed to being bystanders making bets, but just the fantasy league is atrocious and offensive. Whether they made t-shirts or not is hardly the point. |
| It is the same old story. These "really good kids" have been in trouble a lot. Yet Landon seems to keep them around and they keep getting into trouble. I am sick to death of the many truly good kids at Landon being tarnished by these type of idiot kids and their idiot parents. |
Please, fill us in. And can you also please justify the "in-school suspension?" What is that? So no one will know? Especially about a prominent dad who could be adversely impacted? |
So please...enlighten us. What kind of punishment did these boys get from their parents? Any? |
| Silence equals death. Clearly none of the other kids at the school who may have had nothing to do with the incident, spoke up. The culture of the place is such that any action by those not involved would have involved retribution. |
| They don't say anything because they are afraid of the perps. Plus the administration won't back them up with help. |
| what exactly would you have the kids of the school do? This is a matter for the school and the parents, not for the students to take retribution. |
| I think pp 19:52 is talking about the bad culture and wasn't saying the other kids should have come forward. |
| What Maureen Dowd did not mention is that her nephews all went to Prep - which of course does not negate or excuse the content of the article but is something that she should have disclosed in the interest of transparency. |
My DH went to Harvard. Does that mean that if I ever write a piece about Yale I have to disclose the "conflict"?? This is silly. |
| And what should the Post, Examiner, etc. etc. disclose? |
| It's shocking people are trying to find any excuse to downplay this story. It's repulsive to think that 13 or 14 year old boys already think they are superior to girls and can treat them like victims. They need serious counselng + guidance. |
| If you read what I wrote, I was not trying to downplay the story, I was just mentioning something that the author of the piece should have disclosed as it is a conflict. And to 20:33 yes, if you ever wrote a piece about Yale I believe you should say that your husband (is that what DH means???) went there - bc it shapes your opinion and could be considered a bias. |
