Johnny Depp trial in Fairfax County

The comments on this thread go against the vast majority of DCUM opinions. In almost every addict, alcoholic, substance abuse, multiple marriages post on DCUM where there is a spouse in this position the responses say something along the lines of “addicts are abusive. Run for your life now.”

Why now is DCUM going against its logic and lived experience to say Johnny Depp is any different? I’m sure Amber Heard is a basket case too. After all, they chose each other and married each other.

Easy answer: because I just assume that the regular DCUM wife is normal and whatever she tells us in her post is true. In AH-JD case, I previously believed her (just like I believed those DCUM wives) but the trial exposed many lies and inconsistencies in AH's story so it's hard to see her as a one-way victim now. I believe that both were equally responsible for their toxic relationship but I don't believe her narrative of her as a helpless victim and him as the perpetrator of that abuse.

Agreed.

She could have left well enough alone and do without her Op ed? That would probably have prevented her from the torture and wasting 6 weeks of her life.

I know, right? Why won’t abuse victims just shut up and stop making other people, like, think about it?

Newspapers need to stop publishing drivel like this.

And while they’re at it, can they stop publishing anything about school shootings? Newspapers shouldn’t be such downers.

If JD was just some rando and not a celebrity, I’d be afraid to get on an elevator with him. He’s fallen off the cliff hard and looks like he should be standing at a red light holding a sign.

That would be fine if she was a true victim

Now, we're resorting to profiling a person based on their look? lol

DP. "An imperfect victim" as DCUM would say. The one with a bruise kit, drugs supply, PR team, styling entourage, a couple of side pieces, friends who live with her...even her dogs are entitled

I'm not a lawyer and won't guess at the outcome. However, I hope people in general realize that men can be victims of DV.

How did the lovely Ms Heard put it? Something about "Go ahead - tell people that Johnny Depp is abused. Who is going to believe you? You're such a baby. I didn't punch you, I hit you."

If he was apparently violent while drunk, why did she pour him a drink when he got home? That makes no sense to me.

It doesn't make sense because they're both very disturbed emotionally, as is their behavior.

I think they also kept doing the same things that were destructive, hoping that the result would be different each time.... at least they did that
for awhile. They were also attracted to each other- or to their images of each other- because they dated for several years before they actually
married.

Does anyone actually believe this woman? Shame on her!

Sincere question that I'm hoping someone with DV or IPV training can answer. Why would AH buy JD an engraved knife as a gift after he had abused her?

That's something else that doesn't make sense to me. She seems to have done things that would put her at risk. Why??

Victims are imperfect

Same could be said for him then, since there is a recording of her admitting to hitting him and then calling him names and mocking him.

Are only female victims imperfect ?

No? Victims in general are imperfect. Both of these people are clearly highly imperfect. But what is notable is that Depp does not take one iota of responsibility in the mess of their marriage.

It seems to me like they are BOTH physically, verbally and emotionally abusive.

Whelp the minute he can aggravate and bait her to get angry at him - like any sane person would - he wins.

I was married to an abusive HFA, bipolar spouse once who hit the wall once we had kids. He never took responsibility for any of his constant mishaps, accidents, mistakes, carelessness, mindlessness, even when they resulted in very hurt or injured kids. It was always someone else’s fault he broke something, didn’t see a safety hazard, was late, forgot something despite reminders, and if you every even asked what happened…. He’d start arguing with you, name calling, personal attacks, bullying, physically blocking me.
I’d be left with two bad options: argue or fight back, or walk away. And this was in a car or our own house with the kids.
Horrible.
But the minute he could get your to fight him back, in his twisted mind (and the court of law perhaps), he won. The original issue is left unresolved and he can attack you and how you “got mad.” Nevermind what for.

Wow, that was a colossal failure of an attempted comparison. Massive. How embarrassing for you.

Sorry, you’re right. Domestic violence is a nothing issue. It only kills about 1300 people per year and injures over 2 million. Why can’t people just get over it already? If people want to beat their partners, that’s their business.

Maybe some DCUM nerds aren't creative types. I look at him and see he has sort of merged his own style with a bit of Sparrow. It's become part of him. The dark clothes, longer hair, the jewelry, etc. But I guess if a pirate came aboard my elevator, I might be intrigued, but cautious, maybe say aye mate
