At last Philip did something worthwhile.

Every year the public is going to mourn Phillip's death on this date. EVERY. YEAR. I just...wow.

#Diana’sRevenge

I mean...really. This is insane.

It really isn’t a big deal. No one is going to mourn his death every year. More like, oh, PP died on this day.

For real. And it’s not like people publicly celebrate Charles and Camillas wedding anniversary.

Charles and Camilla likely celebrate their anniversary.

Now it will be clouded by his father’s death.

You wouldn’t want your anniversary clouded by a death.

#Diana’sRevenge

Good grief. You are mental. Diana had no revenge! He was going to die sooner or later! And Charles and Camila can celebrate in other ways!

Old Phillip was loyal to the end -

Intriguingly, among the family photographs of children and grandchildren he always kept on his office desk at Windsor, was one of Prince Charles and Princess Diana taken on their wedding day.

That is really weird. Camilla and Charles should have married in the first place. They are clearly compatible and a good match. Diana was a full on histrionic personality who led a tragic life.

It makes you wonder if there was some real bit of info that inspired that scene in The Crown where Diana and Philip go hunting together, when she comes to Balmoral for the first time and is "vetted" by the family as a potential wife for Charles.

Is that story real? Diana is reported to have detested the royal blood sports.

PP here. I assumed it wasn't real, but I also thought that the "trial" weekend of her at Balmoral as test of how well she fit in was probably right. Curious what that might have actually meant in real life.

Apparently William is insisting on bringing Carole and Michael Middleton.

Oh, good God. He annoys me more and more.

Heaven forbid anyone have functional relationships with their in-laws.

I don’t blame him. The Middletons didn’t go on Oprah trashing him and his family.

I'm sure if Prince Philip listed the 30 people he'd most like to attend his funeral, Carole and Michael Middleton would be on the list!

He’d rather have had Meghan at the top of the list.

Well, in this case the gathering should be more about Prince Phillip than William. Especially since this is his Grandfather. I can't imagine having my parents in law attend my Grandparents' covid era funeral. It's odd.

You are not William so I don’t understand how your opinion is relevant.

Although considerably younger than Prince Philip, he like Michael and Carol Middleton quite a bit and thought Kate brought brains and vigor to what was lacking in William. As the child of two hapless parents, William was well on his way to being like Charles, and Philip was determined not to let that happen.

This marks the end of an era and signals that change is imminent. The Queen and Prince Philip have reigned for our entire lifetimes, it was a comfort to many and all that we have known.

Yeah, it looks like 'many' really want to commemorate this occasion

jesus who cares. you'll find out soon enough when they have the funeral in a week.

I wonder if there is some sort of mental illness in this family. Not Phillip but some wacky descendants. Charles? Andrew? Diana?

I think its likely that Beatrice and Eugenie come just to take heat off Andrew who will definitely come. Fergie isn't coming.

The Tindalls should come but Zara just gave birth to an early baby like...two weeks ago so IDK.

Definitely Louise and James. No on Archie, Louis, Charlotte, and George.
