The most logical choice, presuming Biden can hold the black vote. With the Obamas as his surrogates, he should be okay.

I honestly don't see what Amy brings to the ticket. Other than not being in her 70's?

Minnesota, Midwest, women, prosecutor, tough as nails, good life story, will rip little Pence to shreds, doesn't annoy people - she brings a lot to the table

^ That said I think it should be Harris or Abrams

Why?

Because as much as some people like to mock this, or pretend they don't understand, I think it is important for him to have a non-white woman as his second in command. I think that both builds and rewards trust in the black communities, who are essential to the party - and without whom we cannot win - and also with the women of every race who are essential to him winning.

Non-white doesn't matter when it comes to black support. Biden has it on his own.

I think it does matter. Anyway, we'll see!

DP. You really think that if the choice were between Biden without a black running mate and Trump that black voters would choose Trump? Or stay home?

I think yesterday shows that that would not be the case. I think it is more important for him to secure support in swing states where it may make a much better difference between him winning or not.

I don't think it's quite that transactional, I guess? I think it really is a bolstering and rewarding trust thing - and also that last time it came down to less than 100k votes, and having representation on the ticket COULD in fact make the difference.

Yes swing states. Polls also suggest appeal to white working class women could be key:

The black community did not warm to Harris and though Abrams is a rising star, she is untested on the national stage. Neither would have strong appeal to white working class voters, which is what is needed.

Don't think this is an either/or. This is a both. Biden will only get over the line if he picks a veep who will inspire core Democratic constituencies. Abrams may be untested, but she may very well have the chops to do what needs to be done - get people to the polls!

In the south maybe, but this is entirely unclear in the midwestern swing states. Hopefully data is being gathered as we speak.

Oh please. Two very poor team players who bring nothing to the table other than some skin pigmentation.

You are racist. And you've got to be kidding.

I think it has to be a woman.

Look, what the heck do I know. But my gut sense - and conventional wisdom - is that Biden's VP should be a non-white woman.

Please don't say you're a Dem party strategist b/c this take is misguided.

I think Harris or Abrams is more likely, with Gov. Witmar as a wildcard.

Good way to ensure a Trump victory.

Whitmer.

And may ensure a Biden victory.

Definitely a woman, but one who will help push him over the line in the midwestern swing states. Just need his advisors to figure out who that is. Harris seems unlikely (she's a coastal elites favorite), not sure about Abrams (stronger but appeal beyond south, black community, and coastal elites?), also not certain about Klobuchar but seems to best fit the needed demographic.

Whitmer is more charismatic that Klobuchar, definitely has the chops for the VP attack dog role. I wonder what her chemistry would be like with Joe.

What were Biden's numbers for African-Americans compared to Harris and Booker?

This. I still don't quite grasp why AAs did not support Booker, Harris I get the negative perception attached to her prosecutorial record. She would not help a Biden ticket.

I like Biden/Warren

Biden/Sanders - blow everyone’s mind. I joked about it in another thread but it actually sounds less crazy now (to beat Trump).
