What I don’t understand is what happens to the children the handmaids bear. They’re raised by a commander and his wife, and then what? Do they become handmaids if they’re fertile? (Seems like they might be, because their mothers were). Do they become commanders/wives? Do any commanders’ wives ever get pregnant?

Econowomen could also be infertile—I think they just left married women as they found them, unless they considered the marriage invalid (eg previous divorce).

I think the mArthas were women past menopause who were not considered dangerous (eg not radical). Kind of funny that he famous neonatologist wasn’t considered dangerous—you would think she would have been opposed to the rise of Gilda’s but maybe someone pulled some strings for her and looked the other way because they realized that maybe she’d be useful or because she had saved their baby.

I don’t thinknGilead has been around long enough for this to okay out, but I’d suspect the kids would grow up to be commanders wives. They would only need a handmade if they couldn’t get pregnant on their own.

Does anyone know when the season will end? How many remaining episodes? Love the show and enjoy my dcum online chats about it because I don't know anyone else that is watching the series

13 episodes this season. I think next week is episode 10?

Serena knew or at least suspected since she had Offred sleep with Nick to get pregnant. I think the guy in the hotel just confirmed that it’s everyone, not just her husband. Also do you remember before she was pregnant she went to that creepy doctor who offered to get her pregnant himself? I am loving this season and the character development.

Yes me too! I am rooting so hard for Nick. I know June wants to be reunited with Luke and more than anyone, Hannah. I have this feeling Nick will eventually have a hand in it happening. I forget that it’s his baby June is carrying and how that is going to affect him once she’s born and living with the Wallingfords.

I loved it when the Canadian rep handed Serena her itinerary and it was all pictures! I hate her character but the actress is brilliant. She says so much with her expressions.

The daughters might have a chance to be wives or Commander's wives, but they're still at huge risk for being enslaved (although I guess being a Wife could be seen that way as well). I think that was part of the point of the Marissa Tomei character and the econowife who is sentenced to be a handmaid, to show that the hierarchy is not a check on misogyny.

Yes. They go to the handmaid center to recuperate and then sent to another family.

How awful. I had a friend who was pregnant every year of high school. I imagine she'd be popular
