Handmaid's Tale Season 2

I love it so far! But, yes, I had to fast forward thru a couple scenes.

It is a political show in the sense that politics got them where they are - and it happened fast. Like the Taliban. And Hitler. Yes, you can absolutely see warning signs with what is going on now.

Please stop. 1) We do not want a political discussion here. 2) Even with our current administration, the show is so beyond anything close to what we have going on. 3) it’s a fictional television show, please leave it at that.

- drafted with kindness and respect

1) I can’t speak to this because I haven’t met everybody on this anonymous Internet forum
2) A huge theme of the show is how this all snuck up on the characters and how close it IS to what we have going on. That’s why it’s set in the near future and why the flashbacks are so terrifying. How June and her husband are still dreaming of having another child even as he has to sign her prescriptions and she gets government scrutiny for being a working mom. The whole point of Gilead is that it only took a crisis of infertility to destabilize the social order and allow religious extremists to take over the government. The scene with June watching casual misogyny on Friends while hiding in the old Boston Globe offices is as important as the torture. The whole point is to ask what is only a few improbable steps away?
3) What do you see as the point of fiction?

- Kindly, I don’t think you know what respect is.

What is stopping it from happening? Look at how many horrible things are happening and reality is there are countries where people do live like that.

Yes it’s a political show, but it was written in 1984. Every decade someone says it is relatable, but here we are 30 years later, no doomsday.

The book was written in 1984, but season 2 of the show is not based on the book and has just been written.

A voice of dissolution here.
As much as I loved season 1, season 2 seems to be exploiting current fears and sentiments yet absolutely boring and not too engaging. It’s like a bland dish with highly popular spices sprinkled all over.

I agree that the scene with Nick where June wants to leave is super powerful.

And I was just in awe of Elizabeth Moss in the scene where she discovers the nooses and bullet-ridden wall. They show us her face first before we see what she saw -- and you can see that multiple emotions are flowing through her.

+1

Of course there will be people who don't want to talk about politics. I, for one, really love the show because it talks politics.

I can see why people on the other side, women in particular don't want to talk about it because they don't want to admit to themselves that they are complicit. That would be the only reason why I wouldn't want to talk about the political nature of this show.

Ugh i love this show but the latest episode (3) drove me crazy. I was stressed the entire time.

I won’t say anything more yet. But I’m assuming I can speak freely since the episode has been released?

Yes, very stressful. This season is breaking my heart.

Yes I’m really stressed out over episode 3 as well.

After ep 3, the show is losing me fast. The contemporary politics is too heavy handed, and I LOVE contemporary politics. The abject terror can’t be the only good part of the show.
The actors are amazing esp June and Moira but I am just not digging the writing. It keeps pulling me out of it to roll my eyes.

I don't know what to think about this episode. I get that they can't let her get to Canada this early in the season, but if she goes back to that house and we have to watch her get tortured deal with that again I don't know if I can keep watching.

I can't watch this (first I don't have hulu..) but I love the discussion. I think dystopian futures are a GREAT thing to have books and shows about. I do better with books. They are warnings not to get too comfortable. Anyone who takes that personally is not getting that this could happen. We should all be paying attention!
