I've only watched the first episode, but I'm excited to see where things go. That scene at the beginning with the girls was a bit much though, so sad. |
I loved both episodes (only 1 & 2) were released. The book is one of my all time favorites, and yet the show is still amazing on its own. |
I watched both episodes tonight. In the 2 minute extra clip the director said season two would be about how Gillead came to be through the characters flashback stories. |
The scene at the beginning was predictable. they couldn't obviously hang all the fertile women - it would be the death of civilization.
I was really put off by Alexis Bledel's (really bad) acting. The scenes with her all seemed the actor's were 12 and reading from a prompter. But Nick? Max Minghella? The season needs so much more of him! |
June at the Globe HQ was so frightening. I’m a former journalist with many journalist friends, and I could just see how it unfolded in the newsroom.
The Holocaust imagery is strong this season, too. The herding of the handmaids toward the gallows reminded me of the naked women being marched to the showers in Schindler’s List. |
I agree. I knew what was happening the whole time. I thought Alexis Bledel was still with her family after being circumsized? Did i miss something? |
Huh? You knew they weren't going to kill all the fertile women (and the star of the show), right? It was predictable. But enjoyed E1&2 nonetheless. |
Loved both. The sets were very powerful, except I couldn’t understand what they were doing at the colony. Marisa Tomei was almost unrecognizable to me, course I haven’t really followed her and only remember her from my cousin vinny. Enjoyed both episodes. |
Her character said in S1 that the wife and kid got on the plane to Canada and she got separated from them at the airport. S1 she was in Mayday, tried to recruit June, got caught in a same-sex affair and was forced to have a clitoridectomy (she witnessed her partner’s execution), was reassigned to another couple, and then jumped in a car and ran over at least one Guardian. |
NP here. I knew on some level that they couldn't possibly be executing all the fertile women, but the emotions that the handmaids expressed during that scene were absolutely heartbreaking and almost suffocating to watch. I was sort of reluctant to watch Season 1, because it almost felt like torture porn to me, and that first scene felt like that times 1,000. But now I need to keep watching since the content is all new and not based on the book. |
I agree, the opening scene was too intense (along with the gas stove/burning hands) but powerful. |
Duh! I can't believe I forgot that. They only showed it 10 times Thanks |
June cutting her ear was difficult to watch too. |
Thank god there is a pause button because had to pause like 4 times to get through that ear scene. |
I am dying for Aunt Lydia’s flashback but if we never see Serena again it will be too soon.
That line with the ICE agent were he is all “The Law” reminded me of that Mike Pompeo quote about how Jesus is “truly the only solution” so 2018 is great and I will probably be watching season 3 when I am rounded up to work in The Colonies which I assume is Oklahoma after Pruitt. |
