Using that same logic, VM going to WJ shouldn't be such a big stretch either since that has also been discussed last summer. |
Option 3 (the one that prioritized equalizing FARMs rates) had Farmland being sent to Kennedy |
|
No, you just realize how far ahead they started befofe they were even born. I was a FARMS and I don’t want my kids to go to a school like the proposed WJ. It’s not geographically part of our neighborhood and I don’t want my kids to be the “other”
Better write to the BOE immediately, the Karens from Farmland and Luxmanor are intent on sending VM to WJ because they do not want you at their brand new Woodward property. They will claim it is the WJ folk who don't want you at WJ, but look who is pushing the agenda....and they are disingenuous about the purpose. It is the race issue. Isn't this wonderful. A hater from VM who thinks that all white kids are rich hordes and a white property value booster from WJ finding a common ground. |
So? I thought you hated Farmland. Seems that your obsession with your property value is stronger than your hate. |
Not PP and I have zero stake in Farmland. |
+1 I was poor but able to go to a great school when I moved into my grandparents house. Just being around smart kids with structure made a tremendous difference on my life and outcome compared to my peers who stayed behind at the local school. A rising tide raises all ships. |
Observing smart kids engage in nefarious activities such as reading books or doing a math homework can corrupt young innocent minds. Thank you two for reminding us of this danger and for some reason bringing race into it even though PP never implied it. |
| There are some really interesting posts here but also just so much name-calling. Like, why? What is the purpose or goal of spending so much time name-calling and accusing other people of being liars? I don’t think it’s super hard to tell which posts seem like sincere comments from thoughtful parents and community members and which ones seem like a desperate attempt to either sew acrimony or disparage other points of view and communities. It’s honestly deeply weird. |
| Going back to the petition shared in the OP. The creator is a real estate agent who won’t even have any kids in MCPS in 2027. |
And as you were typing this, the post that came at the same time provided a perfect example of what you are saying. The problem with this topic is that it is very polarizing. No matter what the outcome, there will be winners and losers. Taylor made a mistake by making his own modification to one of the options. By doing that, he divided current WJ community, he divided current GPES community and he created bad blood among future Woodward community. |
By your point he divided the KPES too? But to be honest. GPES and KPES "islands" going to Woodward make complete sense. "Core" GPES (town, neighborhood near the school, parkside) and "Core" KPES (parkwood near the school) going to WJ makes complete sense too. MCPS will do a boundary study for elementary soon. KPES is under capacity by a lot. Ashburton is way over capacity. They will re-draw to bring some of Ashburton into "Core" KPES and GPES, and the islands are likely gone mooting this point. He gave all groups what they wanted except Farmland....BUT farmland should go to Woodward and be fine with VMES and WWES going to their school. |
+1000 never trust realtors |
Farmland was not comfortable going to school with minorities at Kennedy or at Woodward I guess. So they created a change.org petition. But the point is this was not "11th hour". Taylor proposed Farmland going to school with Hispanic community. He also proposed WW and VM going to Woodward and it being a majority-minority school with utilization rates 10% above WJ. There was proper notice and comment. BOE should affirm the Superintendent's recommendation. |
That is an oversimplification. If they make the change as proposed by the petition you could also say that "all groups got what they wanted", given what was discussed for months prior to the recommendation. But now, that we have the recommendation, the goal post has shifted and different groups have recalibrated their ambitions. I can use GPES as an example. For months they were united and advocated against split articulation, Woodward or WJ. One of the reasons was that they were worried some parts may end up in Wheaton. But now with the recommendation, WJ part is happy and don't want anything to change and the other part is supporting the petition. The petition is clear in their reasoning and they are making valid points. This whole Farmland/ Luxmanor are not being principled is just a noise from other groups that now feel threatened because their perspective shifted. |
Wrong about GPES. The PTA leadership was all from the “islands” off Tuckerman and Nicholson. They wanted no split articulation because it meant bringing everyone to Woodward with them... including the Town of GP, Parkside, Estates. They didn’t care about the views of those living near the school. The area close to GPES clearly wanted to keep the neighborhood together, not necessarily the entire school…elementsa Boundary is going to change soon anyway. And the Option that the superintended selected was the one they were ok with because it kept the town and adjacent neighborhood together. They literally had signs and flyers advocating for Option B. |
