Tuckahoe Boots Machine

Y’all take summer swim way too seriously and give it an inflated sense of importance. This new club is not being formed in order to “dominate summer recreational swimming”. I would say this coach is ambitious and wants to have his own year round club and is hoping he can persuade some of his summer swimmers to join him in his year round venture to ensure it succeeds.

They already do dominate the summer rec season with no signs of not dominating.

I think this is a Tuckahoe issue and only affects their membership and everyone else should MYOB.

"His vision integrates competitive club swimming at Tuckahoe and non-competitive winter swim programs, benefiting our members and families with year-round professional coaching and structured management. Moreover, we anticipate that, while Hydra Aquatics is and will remain as its own separate entity that is unaffiliated with Tuckahoe Recreation Club, a Tuckahoe-aligned PVS swim club will make the Club potentially more attractive to current and prospective members."

The part is what has always made this feel extra sketchy and like this team, while "unaffiliated with Tuckahoe Recreation Club" will in fact be a Tuckahoe year round competitive swim program.

I agree with this. He saw a way to break into a tough market (club swim with limited pool availability) and used his personal relationships to get there. Not the first person to do this and won't be the last. Good on him I guess.

Whoever wrote the email should have thought some things through. They should have played it like it was totally unrelated to summer swim. However, they also needed to invent reasons they were making this clearly risky financial commitment and distract from the part where they were lying about a fake RFP process so probably felt compelled to state this reason to have something to say.

But creating a Tuckahoe aligned PVS program WAS the reason for their decision….

They already do dominate the summer rec season with no signs of not dominating.

Chesterbrook might disagree

IME most club coaches also coach at a summer team and do some “recruiting” for their club team. It’s been like that since the beginning of NVSL.

I’m not sure I really understand the difference with Tuckahoe’s summer team and the new club team. The only difference is the club team practices at the same facility as the summer team?

It’s a nothing burger…

They might and it would be delusional.

Do they run a club? Don’t think so.

The whole Hydra/Tuckahoe situation has already played out in NVSL once before.

Bob York founded York Swim Club in 1981. He coached Overlee from 1980-1985. So yes, an NVSL Div 1 coach did run a winter club team before - facts.

Bob’s situation 40 years ago is in no way relevant to the current Hydra situation. You’re comparing apples and hand grenades.

That’s actually a great example. Similarly vw used to rent the pool to York a couple days a week for long course practice. Dan becomes coach at vw and now it’s only used for machine…. T is following the machine playbook…
