Coppermine was better than everyone today (and all season so far), beating Maryland United 11-5 and Pride 11-4, ending their regular season 8-0.

Next Level had an impressive 13-5 win over Nems.

Stars had an 11-10 win against a much improved Skywalkers team who was ranked 17th nationally heading into the weekend. Great job Stars!

Pride beat Hero's White handily, 15-4, before their loss to Coppermine in the second game of the day.

Big matchup for next weekend is Pride (5-2) vs Stars (4-3) for NOVA bragging rights. If Stars can ride their momentum to victory, Pride and Stars will both end at 5-3. If not, Pride will be crowned unofficial Nova NGLL champ. Good luck girls!

Coppermine would be a decent high school team--right now--in either VHSL 6A or ISL. Pretty impressive. Size, athleticism, team play, defense. Taking it to MD United like that says a lot.

Coppermine 28 is a great team. But if you think they would do anything except get crushed by the ISL teams at HS, the delusion is really deep. HS is a different style of game than middle school NGLL lax. The level of physicality and speed is a completely different level in HS. I'm sure all of these girls will get there in HS, but to suggest they're at that level now is absurd.

Clearly using some hyperbole to make a point, but glad you engaged so passionately to continue the discussion. I'm guessing you haven't seen the bottom half of the ISL, like Georgetown Day, Madeira, Episcopal, or St. Andrews play recently. Delusion or not, I would argue that there is no real athleticism difference, or even size deficit, in the midfield or defensive lines for Coppermine...and there is a huge lacrosse deficit for those ISL teams. Not talking about SSAS or Stone Ridge or Visi, of course. But fun debate.

That said, I bet McDonough or SPSG or one of the big Baltimore IAAM schools would love to lock down the Coppermine core for their starting line up for the 2028 class.

Beg to differ. Coppermine has 2 really effective midis, a very good goalie, and girls who are fast but not particularly skilled. Obviously they are the team to beat right now, but they lack depth and probably couldn't quite make up a "core." Anyway, their best player already goes to Maryvale and wouldn't be shocked if their second best ended up there as well.

Just to close this entertaining colloquy off--at least on my end--I will take that you think the 3rd ranked team in IAAM could use Coppermine's top 2 (or maybe 3) on their future rosters as at least one point of agreement.

That said, if you are looking for more lacrosse "skill" at the 7th grade level than what Coppermine is showing--a team that didn't drop the ball (like at all) in an 11-5 blitzing of one of the top 4 teams in the region in MD United during a driving rain yesterday--than I'm not sure you are being realistic.

Before someone else says it--back to DMV focus... What is the early line on Stars v Pride matchup this weekend?

You are obviously a Coppermine parent, as you watched their game in great detail, in the rain...at Moose Lodge, and have come here to sing their praises. Which is fine, congratulations to your daughter on a great season. But that being the case, excuse me if I take what you have to say with a hefty grain of salt. Anytime I've seen Coppermine play, which is a decent number of times, they've been just as mistake prone as any other top team, but they have the speed and aggression to recover. If they didn't drop the ball, their two top girls probably weren't passing it much -- which tracks.

Anyway, there's one thing we can agree on - let's get back to the DMV.

The pride/stars game is too hard to predict. Pride looks like they "should" win based on scores against common opponents, but I have my money on stars to give it everything they have and put up enough points to win. I don't think pride's defense can keep them from scoring. So it will likely be a back and forth game and the grittiest team comes out on top.

The pride/stars game is one that is hard to predict. Even though the scores against common opponents make it look like pride 'should' win. I don't think they will be able to stop stars from scoring. So, unless pride controls all of the draws, whoever has the ball last may be the winner.

Stars is finishing the season strong. Should be a great game to end the season and if they both finish 5-3, that is good. I think Stars wins in a 1 goal game.

How did you come up with a Stars 1 goal win prediction here?

I get that rivalry games often mean you toss out some of the prior stats, but if you look at common opponents (and for the sake of argument make Heroes Green and Coppermine equivalent) in NGLL, Stars is -11 Goal Differential and Pride is +21. And that is with throwing out Stars worst game against MDU and Pride's 10 goal win over HoCo.

Is there some matchup analysis, a group of new players, or some other factor behind your assessment?

Next Level, Heroes White, and FCA held Stars under 10 goals.

Pride had 2 big goal scoring games (+10 vs hoco and +15 vs NL when they were on spring break). They each beat skywalkers by 2, and While pride scored more against FCA, Stars held them to 1 less goal. Pride does better against the top teams than stars does, but they do similarly against average teams. So they will play each other close.

Pride also beat Hero's White 15-4 yesterday and Stars beat them 9-8 first game of the season.

Already threw out the HoCo score, and Stars beat SW by 1, not 2. You have to completely ignore the Heroes White and NL games to get to your analysis... That seems flawed.

Yes, that is what I am saying. If you exclude 5 of the 7 regular season games and focus only on the games with FCA and Skywalkers but ignore the margin of victory in each of the games, then Stars and Pride should play each other close and therefore I think Stars will win by one goal.

I can’t imagine these dads when their daughters are in high school. 1/2 the kids on my DS’s HoCo elite middle school team played JV in high school and won’t play D1. NGLL 2028 is not that deep. Relax, your heart health is far more important.
