What is going on with student loans?

Pay your own damn bills. I did, so can everyone else.

those of us who paid our student loans are NOT going to pay for your student loans by subsidizing your loans in our taxes. if this happens we are heading all RED congress, senate and presidency. Good luck.

you're getting an all red congress anyway. and trump will likely be the president in 2024 too. so bring on the forgiveness. I'll be completely debt free and will take me from solid middle class to the edge of upper middle. it will position me to benefit from all of the red policies while the poor get poorer. AMERICAN DREAM BABY!

Gonna need those extra IRS agents to garnish wages of those defaulting on student loans.

As someone who recently had to deal with an issue with the IRS, I can tell you they are dreadfully understaffed. They eventually were able to get to my case and agreed with me that I didn't owe them $24,000. They just needed to have the staff members to deal with the case, and they didn't have anyone. The whole process was dreadfully slow, but they couldn't have been nicer when I finally got through to someone. I don't think it is a bad thing at all to have more IRS agents.

About 87,000 new IRS agents are being hired thanks to the new bill being passed. It’s good news if you are against tax cheating, audit rates have fallen by half in the last 7 years because they weren’t funding them.

That 87k number is very misleading, includes basically hires being replaced due to retirements over the next decade. There are only 78k employees at the IRS, the new bill will likely that it closer to 100k which is what the agency had a decade ago (when they were still understaffed). So this helps with catching more tax cheats but is still less than where it should be if we want to balance fairness and revenue with enforcement and deterrence.

And pp will still be paying for other people's student loans. Trump and the GOP aren't conservative so have no scruples about offering forgiveness to get votes. I mean it's just comical seeing people claim they are fiscally responsible so will vote GOP due to student loans.

Politico's student debt ace reports there's a WH student debt meeting tomorrow. Could be a nothing-burger or could signal an extension of the pause or maybe the long-floated (up to) $10k.

Who else is starting to feel like a sucker? Bidens, Harris, Warren, Sanders, Schumer, Pelosi, Durbin, Hoyer, Jeffries, Clark, Clyburn... even AOC do not care.

Clearly.

Cry harder. You sold your vote. For nothing.

I am in favor of forgiveness but being a one-issue voter for president/Congress on student loans is just...no. Really, you don't care about anything else?

I think the Republicans are scared sh#tless that once Biden enacts even $10K forgiveness his approval rating will shoot up to over 50%. I honestly think it’s going to happen and will be wildly popular with 60% of the country.

Yes! I will be so grateful! Even 10k will help me tremendously. Probably more than the millions given to corporations
