Biden really backed himself into a corner all but promising to pick an African American woman as VP. I don't think that many Democratic rank and file care about either the sex or race of the VP...it's mainly activists/politicos who care.

Biden unnecessarily limited his choices. Going with a governor would have been much better.

Biden never promised an African American woman as VP. He promised a woman as VP. Several of those he rumored to have been vetted are AA. He did state he would put a black woman on the SC.

Elizabeth Warren is a woman of color. Conceivably, Harris could be AG. I read the notes as rationalizing why he didn’t select Harris. It’s down to Rice, Harris, Warren and Whitmer, I think.

Nope, sorry, wrong. She identifies, correctly, her Native American heritage. You disagree? But ultimately, I think he has to pick an African American woman.

Did Biden promise a woman of color or am I making that up?

After yesterday’s gaffe about diversity, Biden must pick an African American woman. No Gretchens.

It wasn't a gaffe. He was speaking *specifically* about attitudes toward immigration policy not making general claims about demographic culture. Yes, Latinos are not unified on immigration policy, which is tricky.

If enough voters think it's a gaffe, it is one.

We don’t. Most voters are worried about their UI and ready to check that little box supporting blue lives.

Who really cares about the unreliable progressives? They are one of the big reasons that we have Trump in the first place because they had a temper tantrum in 2016 and refused to vote for Clinton when she beat out Sanders. Show you can vote for the party ticket even when you don't get your choice, and then maybe in the future, when the party can trust that you'll be supportive of the process they can worry about what progressives want.

In any event, many polls have shown that the VP choice is unlikely to make a difference, but Warren is the worst candidate. Right now, Biden needs to focus on ensuring that he can get out the vote in the 10-12 swing states and he needs to make sure that the undecided Independents and moderates in those states vote for him. They will not do that if Warren is the candidate. She will turn many undecideds into Trump votes. Leave her in the Senate where she can be far more help to Biden. She might even be the majority leader or will at least be a key party leader in the Senate if the Democrats can win back the Senate.

So by extension his point was that the African American community doesn’t have diversity of thought regarding immigration policy? I’m confused here.

Rice worked directly with Fauci for years, is working with him now on DC’s response and helped put together the “Pandemic Playbook for Dummies”. The mileage that a Biden/Rice ticket on the “Pandemic Playbook for Dummies” is priceless.

He did not promise a WOC vp, has only said his cabinet would be diverse and he'd nominate the first Black woman Supreme Court justice. Nevertheless, media pressure has created the expectation and I am worried.

I feel like I'm the only person not worried about the VP pick.

You’d be correct about that, probably.

correctly? Not even close. The Cherokee nation rebuked her claims to Cherokee heritage. She has a microscopic (less than 1/1024th part) native American heritage. The Cherokee nation correctly pointed out that DNA tests can't even tell whether native American DNA is of North or South American origin. By tribal rules, she does not meet any of the criteria for Cherokee heritage.

She spent months trying to atone for her gaffe of using a DNA test to claim Cherokee heritage. She issued a private apology to tribal elders, but that wasn't enough and she had to backtrack and make a public apology for being tone-deaf and trying to claim POC status. It's bad enough that she got her Harvard position as a professor on the erroneous basis of being a POC.

She really needs to accept that she is as white as Wonder Bread and move on.

If you say so. Harris has a strong case.

I want Rice because she is smart and will be most helpful during this pandemic.

How does Rice poll with Midwestern suburban women who are the swing voters for 2020?

And the evidence that shows she got her Harvard staff position based on her supposed Native American heritage.

She did nothing when asked for two Blackmen who died at the hands of police in suspicious circumstances. She did not support anti-profiling police laws. She prosecuted individuals knowing evidence was tainted. She disproportionately prosecuted black men. She has paltry foreign experience or even senate experience. Her BLM support is so opportunistic it is shameful. Why do you want Harris?
