Biden's VP?

Biden really backed himself into a corner all but promising to pick an African American woman as VP. I don't think that many Democratic rank and file care about either the sex or race of the VP...it's mainly activists/politicos who care.

Biden unnecessarily limited his choices. Going with a governor would have been much better.

Biden never promised an African American woman as VP. He promised a woman as VP. Several of those he rumored to have been vetted are AA. He did state he would put a black woman on the SC.

There is a lot of contradictory reporting, so who knows, but this morning CNN is saying Harris, Rice, or Whitmer:

"But conversations with Democrats close to the process, along with party officials and donors who have also weighed in, suggest California Sen. Kamala Harris, former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer are among those he's seriously considering as he nears the end of his search.
While Whitmer's name had receded over the summer from some lists of prominent contenders, Biden has always found her impressive, officials said, and he has continued to build their relationship. Two Democrats familiar with the search told CNN on Thursday that she remains in serious contention."

I was pro-Harris, but I think I've decided Whitmer is the best choice.

Did you hear me, Biden? WHITMER!

Please not Susan Rice. Please.

Duckworth and Whitmer are the "do the least harm" candidates in terms of electability. Either would be a good governing partner (edge to Whitmer) but there doesn't seem to be as much chatter about Duckworth of late.

Couldn't choosing Whitmer alienate voters who are expecting a person of color?

Did Biden promise a woman of color or am I making that up?

After yesterday’s gaffe about diversity, Biden must pick an African American woman. No Gretchens.

Whitmer seem to be making a furious 11th hour push.

He did not promise a WOC vp, has only said his cabinet would be diverse and he'd nominate the first Black woman Supreme Court justice. Nevertheless, media pressure has created the expectation and I am worried.

Elizabeth Warren is a woman of color. Conceivably, Harris could be AG. I read the notes as rationalizing why he didn’t select Harris. It’s down to Rice, Harris, Warren and Whitmer, I think.

It wasn't a gaffe. He was speaking *specifically* about attitudes toward immigration policy not making general claims about demographic culture. Yes, Latinos are not unified on immigration policy, which is tricky.

Either that or the Biden campaign is floating her so that it's not too much of a shock if she's the pick.

If enough voters think it's a gaffe, it is one.
