Sigh. It’s so pathetic that some of you think option 3 will give you this promised diversity. The whole reason you need option 3 is that people sort based on schools. Change the schools and people sort again. It won’t give you the diversity you supposedly seek. It’s also sad that you have no understanding of the world and don’t actually seek to help the people you purportedly want to help with ‘diversity.’ |
Oh no, you'll leave? Now I'm scared ![]() |
Literally the only students who will get on the bus for the 45 minute trip to Kennedy will be our current FARMS students in apartments near Rockville Pike. They will be worse off as they will be in very high FARMS school. They are the students losing here. A lot of kids from those neighborhoods have gone on to do great things after graduating from WJ, btw. But sure, take that away from them to fox Kennedy. People make $500,000 plus to buy in these neighborhoods. They will move a bit south to continue going to WJ or just go private without blinking an eye. You simply can’t force people to send their kids on a 45 minute bus ride to a high FARMS school, so Flo needs to assume a pretty high margin of attrition from non-FARMS families. |
So then what's the problem for you? |
Whatever, I just hate to see the WJ community split up like this. It’s a shame and it’s been working so well for years. We expected the split with Woodward. Not Kennedy, Einstein etc. |
Why on earth would you have that expectation? |
You can read through the thread. Not going to repeat about earlier survey done with WJ families about expanding WJ or reopening Woodward. |
So you all are just in denial about the scope of the boundary study which was approved by the BOE years ago because your community was surveyed about expanding WJ so you thought you'd get a new school all to yourselves, paid for with taxpayer dollars? You are completely unhinged. |
No, we thought WJ would split into two, with DCC schools joining us for 2 nice, diverse high schools close to home. Not getting split up and bused 45 minutes across county for I guess more diversity, when diversity is right here close to home. You are the unhinged, my friend. |
None of what you are describing has happened. It is one of 4 options. Also, the drive from Farmland to Kennedy is a grand total of 9 minutes longer than the current drive from Farmland to WJ. |
No you are unhinged. The survey position was to reopen Woodward, split WJ between WJ and Woodward, knowing that both WJ and Woodward boundaries would include current DCC students. Knowing that both schools would include current DCC students is literally the opposite of keeping it all to ourselves. But you need the strawnan of bad west county to feel better about yourself. |
You get pleasure at the thought of children sitting on a bus for 45 minutes twice a day because some adults make you feel less than? That is kind of lame. Also I don’t believe property values should be part of this discussion because a) values are unpredictable and never guarenteed, and b) on principal not relevant to the BOE whose duty is only to determine how best to educate all children. However, I sometimes wonder if part of the motivation for east county advocates is belief that they will gain financially covered in socially acceptable rhetoric about racicom and segregation. |
It was a survey! Why do you think because you were surveyed you get to unilaterally decide what MCPS does with taxpayer funded assets? |
Lol Property values in East county are high enough, thanks. I get pleasure at the discomfort some of you feel about your kids going to schools you consider bad, but are comfortable with thousands of other people's kids going to those same schools. |
I don’t. But i reject your assertion that WJ families want to keep Woodward all to themselves. |
