If Einstein is losing the performing arts there is no reason to go given they have watered down academics. They just ruined Einstein. Losing the IB is fine as only a few graduate with degrees. |
Again, this doesn't mean Einstein is losing IB. It means Einstein won't have a regional IB program. It can either keep IB or have comparable AP classes for the local students. |
40-50% becomes high. Yes, you can say that it;s not high FARMS comapred to 80%, but right now Tilkden region was with WJ. It's high FARMS compared to current situation. |
The same watered down academics will exist in Woodward. |
In region 3,
WJ will be the best school. Wheaton will follow. Einstein and Woodward will be the last at similar level. |
Einstein isn't in region 3, it's in region 1. |
US news latest ranking in Maryland. Walt Whitman High School #2 in Maryland (of 257) Thomas S. Wootton High School #3 Poolesville High School #4 Winston Churchill High School #8 Richard Montgomery High School #11 Walter Johnson High School #14 Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School #20 Northwest High School #21 Quince Orchard High School #33 Col. Kennedy #149 Einstein is pretty low. I thought enough motivated kids are present in Einstein. I am surprised to see it with Watkins Mill. |
My bad, I wrongly thought that it was in the region 3. 4th school in region 3 will be Kennedy. |
Given the direction of Einstein's IB program, facilitated in its decline by the school's administration, it either will continue its devolution as the more academically inclined go to the new regional IB at BCC or it will go away entirely as resources focus on now-to-be-regional programs VAC (currently county-wide), Education (currently ??? -- there is special education at Einstein, but that is for students with special ed need, so one might question the claim of an extant Education program, presumably teaching-oriented, on the asset map; alternately, they may be defining "Education," from a magnet perspective, as Special Education in the first place, which introduces a whole other set of considerations) & Design (to be developed). Divorcing VAC and Performing Arts (currently DCC-available VAPA), with the latter to be a regional magnet at Northwood, could be a mistake, diminishing the possibility of a cohesive and reputation-enhancing set of magnet foci for the school. |
It seems none of the BOE members live around Woodward region. |
Well if they do these regional programs, which will lead to increased expenses for busing, hopefully BOE will reject any version of Option 3 (busing for demographics). They’ll get it this way instead. MCPS really can’t afford busing for demographics AND busing for regional programs.
Have they done the busing impact study yet? I thought BOE asked for that. Honestly, I haven’t gotten over the fact that they haven’t finished background checks and teachers didn’t get paid on time this summer. These are VERY BIG RED FLAGS. It’s nice that they want to do all these things, but we can’t even seem to get the basics right. I believe that Howard County ended up laying off teachers not long after all their redistricting. (Recall reading that somewhere but not sure where. Maybe letter to the editor from prior HoCo BOE president with lessons learned.) |
VAC and VAPA have always been separate, so there's no divorcing needed. The Education program is probably the Teacher Academy of Maryland, which Einstein already has. |
