Probably not enough on School Board that would take action against Reid- I mean they included look what she’s done for sports! as a reason to renew contract early. Hope the 3 that voted for investigation are vocal and that coaches can share what they know.

She started middle school sports. That's good.

But this, while not her direct doing, happened on her watch and she has facilitated it. And is continuing to facilitate it.

meh. "middle school sports" is just running at our school. doesn't interest most kids. If it was a real middle school sports program: basketball, soccer, etc. then I would be impressed.

our pyramid used to do middle school soccer volleyball and basketball, now that cross country is official, that's done. I guess we can thank her for making middle school sports worse

That’s one! Two to go! Though don’t be surprised if Fritts ends up being the fall guy and the other two go nowhere.

I still think Overton resigns after the games honestly. Principal may end up staying on. Who knows. We’re 200+ pages deep on this thread so there’s that!

Actually I guess three to go for the thread but she just got a new contract so she’s not going anywhere.

Not so sure about that. Sure, firing her would be a huge, huge headache for the school board, for lots of reasons.

But this is scandal is also a huge, huge headache. And a huge, huge black eye.

I applaud the West Potomac coach for going on the record with that 100% accurate quote.

A running clock and idling opponent can't stop, won't stop us.

Nobody cares about the score. Go for it.
Embarass Reid even more.

The monthly installment of her $400k annual salary already cleared. She doesn't care.

Wonder if she goes to Hayfields games. Won’t be surprised if she attends the Championship if Hayfield makes it.

OMG not a chance in hell she shows up at any of the games. She's in hiding at this point.

Cross country is supposed to be the start of middle school sports, the initial sport. Other sports will be added. That was my understanding.

An out of the way family trip for this? Oy.

Many FCPS HS athletes are very invested in this story and were shocked and disappointed hat the school system backed the cheaters. The kids put in a ton of time into their sports and respect the game and the rules.

We live in one of the most fascinating areas on earth with tourists eager to see all that the DMV offers. And you choose to road trip to…a high school football game in a far, uninteresting part of Fairfax Cnty at an unaffiliated school. Likely so that you can boo some kids you don’t know as a family. Stay home, have some cocoa with the kids, and watch a movie instead.

Do you know any high school boys? LOL.

Do you? Do you think your “son and his friends” just want to drive far away to an unaffiliated school to just cheer on Edison and not boo and provoke Hayfield? Do better.

Personally, if it were my kids I think that would be a fine way for FCPS student athletes to express their disdain and disgust for FCPS's support of cheating.

A bunch of high school boys set out to boo and intimidate kids from another school at a game that already is filled with heated emotions. What could go wrong?

This is what FCPS wanted, right? Sporting events with no rules, integrity or sportsmanship.

Yes! In no way are the parents encouraging their teen boys to go to a game on the other side of town to boo other kids making a poor decision! Damned FCPS!

The parents are encouraging their children to reflect FCPS and Reid's values of poor sportsmanship, no integrity and no rules.

Exactly! Moms encouraging their teen sons to go out there to a school they’ve never visited in order to intimidate and be aggressive towards others is really going to stick it to Reid. Examples of great parenting. Great job.

Given there aren't fields and gyms for the existing community use on top of high school sports, it would be impressive indeed if she personally could figure out that logistical hassle. NCS can't even figure out timely permit allocations for community sports organizations!

It’s just track and XC at every school

The middle school sports issue revolves around a couple things

1. The person overseeing it at each school gets paid like $600 extra bucks for the year. It’s not worth it.

2. Getting coaches for multiple sports is difficult since most are with high school already and rec travel coaches may prefer those opportunities

3. The bigger sports aren’t necessarily cost prohibitive but you need better infrastructure at most schools. Yes there are fields but they aren’t maintained with nearly the care high school fields get.

4. Pointing back to 1 and 2, adults to oversee kids. Most MS teachers don’t want to stay longer for athletic activities because little pay and also have you met a middle school kid! People who teach middle school are gosh darn saints and built of different stuff. I never could do it! Hormones of pre teens. Used to say the difference between high school and middle school is you know what to say to hurt someone but in middle school you don’t have the filter to not say it. Too much.

But yes middle school is only running because it’s all the county can afford and they can barely get someone to be in charge for that!

Assume that was your PTA or otherwise done in an unfunded, unofficial way, like middle school softball out in Loudoun is run by the local softball leagues.

Cool. My kids lost other sports that were present before they got to middle school and maybe after they leave middle school, those sports will come back?

It was after school funds and teachers volunteering. Uniforms were pennies with numbers. Only a few games against other local middle schools. I'm guessing the cost was near zero- just the referees

That parent is really just following the example of the leader of our "world class school system", who just vehemently doubled-down to all parents on supporting cheating, lying, rule-breaking and poor sportsmanship. What could go wrong?

You forgot transportation and the advantage that gives secondary schools like LB and Hayfield.

Yes. MS sports exist in counties like PWC because they have the infrastructure for it. A PWC middle school campus is not like the ones found on FFX.
