Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 2

Anonymous

Collins, Murkowski, Flake and Manchin talked together right after the hearing today in a private room.

I do NOT think the GOP has the votes. Indeed they did not say the SJC was going to vote Friday morning. The SJC is going to CONVENE Friday morning. They hope to gather the Senate to vote on Saturday, but again... some key people aren't falling in line!

But this is not over. It’s not 1991 anymore.

The Demwillbevoted out of office. Women are enraged. Rightfully so.

- NYT Editorial. Biased source you might say, but in this instance, I completely agree with them.

One thousand percent.

He came in basically saying, "I deserve this appointment and waa waa you're trying to take it away from me." Petulant and entitled.

My sense, too. He really has an arrogant, entitled air about him. “I got into YLS!”

He has been wrongly accused of horrible acts. He is not going to be calm and dignified. He’s mad as hell at this crap. And, yes, I would be very contemptuous of the Senators who managed to turn this hearing into a fiasco. I do not blame him one little bit.
And, the NY Times? Full of crap.

I’m sorry but I don’t think he is innocent. I find his assertion comical.

So you’re willing to ruin a man’s career and reputation over an allegation? An allegation that is uncorroborated and mostly refuted?

How is his career ruined by not giving him a seat on the Supreme Court? He still has a judgeship. He is NOT entitled to this job.

This allegation along with his hyperpartisanship and deportment make him unsuitable for such an important life-time appointment.

Just you wait til November. Women will not forget.

Women have sons, brothers, and fathers, too. No woman wants her male family member destroyed over stuff like this.

This means they have the votes to confirm.

Game over.

They don't have the votes. But the sooner they vote on him, the sooner they can move on to the next one. Waiting won't improve things for Kavanaugh.

How do you know they don’t have the votes?

I'd like to know the answer to that question too. I don't like the man, and I detest Trump, but I'd vote for him if nothing changes between now and tomorrow. I don't see how they won't make it.

It’s a 100% certainty they have the votes and he will be confirmed tomorrow.

I'm with the 80%. Republicans have proved over and over that power is more important than anything else and worth any cost.

They have the votes, it's obvious. Continuing to obsess over this is pretty futile.

Confused about what Dershowitz is saying here:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2018/09/27/alan-dershowitz-postpone-kavanaugh-confirmation-until-fbi-can-investigate-accusations-against-him.html

So he calls for the FBI investigation, saying both are credible and we need to get to the bottom blah blah. Then he says, "The benefit may be to warn young men, especially in this age of the Internet, that what happens in high school and college doesn’t stay in high school and college."

What the heck is that supposed to mean? "The benefit"? Oh, hey, young men, if you sexually assault people in the age of the Internet, remember you may not get away with it. Gee, what a service Kavanaugh has done to the country already. As if we need one more old guy telling us what the benefits to men are.

If those sons, brothers, and fathers DO "stuff like this," then honestly I'm more than ok with their reputation being destroyed (or brought into the light). You're not entitled to a pass on harming others just because we share some genes.

He was a buffoon today.

Not in my book. He said what needed to be said, and I'm glad he looked directly to his left at the two who most needed to hear it.

He looked INSANE. I am in shock that that is a person who is supposed to be a leader in this country. Clearly cannot handle stressful situations very well. Not a good look.

I was expecting to see him start frothing at the mouth any minute. Just the qualities we want to see in a level-headed justice.

Exactly. My jaw dropped watching him act like a maniac

My thought was he is going to start laughing hysterically or have a seizure. I expected for someone to intervene for a break each time he babbled the fine details of the day back in 1982 or at yale. In my wildest dreams, I did not expect such bizarre behavior out of a federal judge. He can't behave like this in any court. If he gets in, which he wont, not even CT will want anything to do with him. His kids will be embarrassed to be seen with him. No more smirks. Poor yale, they won't want another GP student for a few decades. I think he will be able to keep the basketball coach job given how the church has dealt with sex abuse.

I have 4 brothers and 3 sons and I think Kavanaugh is a POS. He is the type of male I warn my sons of becoming.

Good, respectful men don’t harass any women.

Mothers and sisters realize that. I’m not defending any of the men in my life of multiple women emerge and accuse them of sexual assaults.

Clearly more worried about saving his own skin. What about Heitkamp?
