The poster was replying to another poster discussing how Midwest untied (Michigan) got kicked out of the Midwest conference in ecnl … other poster was discussing how the club that should have been kicked out was FCWI |
no reason for coaches to go to GA tournaments. if they do, they usually send assistants. Champions Cup and Playoffs are the only place college coaches should go to and it shows. everything else is just a waste of their time. |
My kid played at champions cup and the rumor going around was that recruiters were impressed by what they saw and were planning to attend more GA events. But maybe they always say that kind of thing. You obviously have an agenda but what's the difference if recruiters go to an ECNL event but only watch/scout the top teams. Or if recruiters go to a GA event with only the top clubs playing? It's the same thing! |
By only inviting the top clubs to an event like Champions Cup at least GA isn't trying to sell a dream (and charging parents for it) to players that have no chance. |
|
Fact is,
Colleges will begin offering full scholarships to kids in the Transfer Portal and less for kids playing club soccer. Colleges will rely heavily on the top clubs in the country to produce, not the league… |
It's always been like this for top youth clubs. Idiots get blinded by the blinking lights that leagues dazzle them to the point that they suddenly believe their kid playing on a lower level team is what recruiters are looking for. |
I'll take things that didn't happen for $100. GA tournaments are not good. period. hat is why there is low turnout and the GA only has 3 tournaments and the summer tournament doesn't even invite the oldest age group. CAUSE coaches don't come. 20 top teams is all they go watch for recruiting seriously. it's that simple. stop sugar coating it. the December tournament, ga's biggest tournament will start getting less and less coaches. |
Source? |
the winter showcase sells itself as their biggest tournament. but the coaches mainly go to the champions cup games. all the other teams that go to the showcases, well they are lucky to have coaches come out. but its is smart. have champions cup with a showcase so more teams will show up but in reality if you are a college coach there is no reason to go to any other games to recruit but a champions cups game. you are getting the verified top teams |
Why would GA put resources into the oldest age group? If you're not engaged with a recruiter by that time it's not going to happen. I also like how you use leading words and innuendo to be negative about GA. The truth is that attendance players, coaches, scouts, etc has increased every year since GA was founded. Since you like to play the one up game I'll make sure videos of GA teams playing international teams at MLSNs Generation Adidas Cup get posted. |
why wouldn't they? most kids are l in 11th grade, prime recruiting |
Not all of the top ECNL clubs attended Phoenix. Small number. DD’s team didn’t go. I need a new ECNL hat! |
I don't know, maybe the same reason GA chooses to do Champions Cup instead of cattle call showcases. Maybe GA isn't looking to charge players as much as possible by selling impossible dreams to the ones that have no chance. |
Haha, I liked the new ECNL hat comment. I'm thinking about printing up a bunch of ECNL hats and selling them outside the next ECNL event. I bet I could make a grand in a day. |

The number of college coaches to ECNL and GA events/showcases in 2025 will not change much. In 2027 when the 2012 year is just beginning to be scouted you will see a substantial shift to GA, legacy alone will not keep ECNL’s position at the top.
We need to look at GA versus ECNL through a BY/SY lens. It looks a lot different for 2012 than it does for 2008. Confident in their position, GA can take the time to build their league the right way similar to the way the MLS did in the early years, slow and steady making sure the foundation is strong and the partnerships solid. |
